Hello Splinterlands Summoners and welcome to another edition of Social Media Challenge! Today let's take a deep look into one of the epic Rebellion reward cards, the dreaded Night Reaper.

Lore from Splinterlands

Night reapers are monstrosities born of a realm of demons and dragons. When their world was subsumed by the dark god Uul, they joined the Host of the legions of Chaos. These malevolent creatures answer to Silus of the Rift alone and unleash their wrath according to his will.

Unpredictable and brutal, night reapers ensure terror reigns wherever they soar and have been a crucial instrument in quelling the rising rebellion in the towns and cities that span the empire’s horizons.

Stats and Abilities

The Night Reaper is an epic, dragon splinter card. At level one it deals a massive three magic damage, has four speed and nine health. It can fly too making it a good tank at this level. On top of that, it has a new ability called Wingbreak. Wingbreak ability targets the first flying enemy unit regardless of position, abilities, or rulesets. It also deals +2 damage if the target has the Flying ability.

At level two, Night Reaper gains an armor making it more tanky and able to join rulesets that allows only armored units. At level three it gains another ability, Deflect. At max level it's damage increases to four and gains the Last Stand ability.

Role in Battle

Being a magic dealing unit, the Night Reaper can play in any position. It can be in the first position owing to its high health and defense. It can also be in second position being immune to Blast. It can also be an ideal unit in last position, defending against Sneak attackers. Also, being a dragon splinter, it can team up with all splinters. You can have fun testing the Night Reaper in combination with other units.

Featured Battles

I have a couple of battles featuring the Night Reaper. It's Wingbreak ability is very deadly against enemy flying units. It's battles against the Chaos Dragon is fun to watch since the Night Reaper can't be hit by Chaos Dragon's blast damage.

Battle 1

The first battle's ruleset is Healed Out. It's also a high mana battle so I can field my best units. In this battle I chose the Dragon splinter with Quix the Devious as summoner and paired it with my usual team in high mana battles, the Light splinter. My tank is Uriel the Purifier. He combines sustainability and high damage making him a deadly tank. In second position, I chose the Night Reaper. In third, is Olivia the Brook, one of my favorite cards because of her Mimic ability. In fourth is Adelaide Brightwing. Aside from her two magic damage, she repairs Uriel's shield making him stay in battle longer. In fifth and sixth position, I have a couple of units with Taunt ability, drawing attacks away from my tank.

My opponent also chose the Dragon splinter combined with the Light team. However his team is composed of units different from mine. His summoner is the Helios Matriarch, allowing him to use one gladiator card. For his tank, he used the Imperial Knight, a good substitute for Uriel. He also has Olivia the Brook, Iziar and Adelaide Brightwing on his team. In the last position, he has a maxed level Chaos Dragon.

Night Reaper quickly disposed of my enemy's Adelaide Brightwing in one shot. It also deflected a Blast damage from the Chaos Dragon. Next was the opponent's Iziar while Night Reaper was attacking the Chaos Dragon. The opponent's Captain Katie was very strong but was soon overwhelmed my damage dealers. It was a challenging battle but I won in the end.

Battle 2

The next battle's rulesets include Keep Your Distance and Silenced Summoners. This is also a high mana battle. Once again I chose the Dragon splinter with Quix the Devious as summoner. I picked the Night Reaper as my tank. It is supported by Adelaide Brightwing to repair armor and Venari Crystalsmith healer. I have two Taunt units again and have Djinn Renova with Triage to heal them.

My opponent has Lily Shieldpaw as summoner but since the ruleset includes Silenced Summoner, she can't buff her team. My opponent combined it with the Water splinter with Wave Brood in the tank position and Baakjira in the second position. He has a support unit with Merdaali Guardian and also a unit with Triage ability. He also has a Chaos Dragon in his team similar to the first battle. I don't think this is the optimal position for his units in battle. I would have placed the Baakjira in first position. It will be tanky and healed by his Merdaali Guardian. The Wavebrood I will place in the last position to draw attacks and it will be healed by his Angelic Mandarin. This is the strategy I usually employ.

The battle took some time owing to the Born Again ruleset but my opponent's attack were divided between my tank and my Taunt units while both are being healed. Soon his tanks and Chaos Dragon were eliminated and pretty quickly his other units followed. I won the battle with my whole team intact.
