River view of Bangladesh

Bangladesh is known as a riverine country. Rivers are a major component of the natural features of this country. Numerous rivers flow through different parts of the country, which have had a profound impact on the lifestyle, agriculture, and communication of the local people. While many of these rivers flow straight, some rivers are particularly known for their meandering courses.

Some examples of meandering rivers are Kirtinasha, Dhaleswari, Meghna, and Yamuna rivers. The course of these rivers is like a work of art of nature. Rivers that usually flow through plains make bends like this. These bends are called "meanders", which are a natural feature of a river's course.

The main reason for the formation of crooked rivers is the accumulation of silt due to the low flow of the river. When a river flows over less sloping land, its velocity slows down and silt begins to accumulate. As a result, the bank of the river bends. Over time these bends widen and the course of the river changes.

These rivers play an important role in Bangladesh's agriculture, fishing, and communication. Beneath the meandering rivers, fertile land develops, suitable for agriculture. Moreover, the bends of these rivers form small billets and ponds, which are the main source of livelihood for the local fishermen.

But Crooked River also has some downsides. River meandering can directly cause river erosion. Riparian settlements are often affected by river erosion. This erosion is especially severe during the monsoon season.

All in all, the meandering rivers of Bangladesh are not only natural beauty but also play an important role in economic and social spheres. They are one of the symbols of our country's natural heritage.
