Our Land Our Future
All over the planet, the environment is threatened. From forest to desert and dry land, from farmland and lake to natural resources on which we survive, we are at a tipping point.
According to the report published by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, approximately 40% of the total land cover is degraded. It affects approximately half of the world's population. The rate of drought has increased 29 percent since 2000. If the rate of degradation increases with this rate approximately 3 quarter of the land will be degraded by 2050.
The theme of World Environment Day 2024 is to focus on land restoration, slowing or reducing the process of desertification and drought under the slogan of " OUR LAND OUR FUTURE". We can not go back in the past but we can grow forests, replenish water resources,s and bring back the soil. We are the generation that has the potential to make peace on land.
