Amir Timur conquered 42 countries in his life and also looted immense wealth. Timur's biographers write that he used to load his wealth on horses and carts and hundreds of carts and horses would reach Samarkand in a row and this would be the wealth of a single campaign. was He was also a famous conqueror of the world. He spent fifty years of his life playing with swords. He was also one of the few rare people in the world who could work with both his hands at the same time. And he could write with both his left hands and he had amazing memory. He never forgot what he had heard and read. His endless wealth and his 42 conquered countries all became the sustenance of the earth, but one thing of Timur survived the hands of time and that was his handwritten book, his autobiography, I am. Timur". Amir Timur probably wrote this book in the Persian language. This is an incomplete book that was finished at the time of Timur's death in 1405 and was first published in Britain in 1783 in the form of a handwritten copy, and after that it was published in 40 languages. It was translated and has been published and read continuously for 229 years

امیر تیمور نے زندگی میں 42 ملک فتح کیے‘ بے تحاشا دولت بھی لوٹی‘ تیمور کے سوانح نگار لکھتے ہیں وہ اپنی دولت گھوڑوں اور گڈوں پر لادتا تھا اوریہ سیکڑوں گڈے اور گھوڑے قطار میں سمر قند پہنچتے تھے اور یہ کسی ایک مہم کی دولت ہوتی تھی۔ وہ دنیا کا نامور فاتح بھی تھا‘ اس نے زندگی کے پچاس سال تلوار سے کھیلتے ہوئے گزار دیے۔ وہ دنیا کے ان چند نادر لوگوں میں بھی شمار ہوتا تھا جو اپنے دونوں ہاتھوں سے بیک وقت کام لے سکتے تھے‘ وہ ایک ہاتھ میں تلوار اٹھاتا تھا اور دوسرے ہاتھ میں کلہاڑا اور دونوں ہاتھوں سے لوگوں کے سر اتارتا چلا جاتا تھا‘ وہ دائیں اور بائیں دونوں ہاتھوں سے لکھ بھی سکتا تھا اور اس نے حیران کن حافظہ بھی پایا تھا‘وہ ایک بار کی سنی اور پڑھی ہوئی بات کبھی نہیں بھولتا تھا‘ اس کی یہ ساری کامیابیاں‘ یہ ساری اچیومنٹس خاک میں مل گئیں۔ اس کی ناختم ہونے والی دولت اور اس کے 42 مفتوح ممالک یہ سب زمین کا رزق بن گئے لیکن تیمور کی ایک چیز زمانے کی دست برد سے بچ گئی اور وہ اس کے ہاتھ کی لکھی ہوئی کتاب تھی‘ اس کی سوانح عمری ’’میں ہوں تیمور‘‘۔ امیر تیمور نے غالباً یہ کتاب فارسی زبان میں لکھی تھی‘ یہ ادھوری کتاب ہے جو تیمور کی موت 1405ء کے وقت ختم ہو گئی اور قلمی نسخہ کی صورت میں مختلف ہاتھوں سے ہوتی ہوئی 1783ء میں برطانیہ میں پہلی بار شایع ہوئی اور اس کے بعد 40زبانوں میں ترجمہ ہوئی اوریہ 229 برسوں سے شایع ہو رہی ہے اور مسلسل پڑھی جا رہی ہے۔

یہ بنیادی طور پر کتاب کی عظمت ہے‘ علم اور کتاب کو زوال نہیں ہوتا‘ دنیا میں تیمور جیسے لوگوں کی سلطنتیں ختم ہو جاتی ہیں لیکن ان کے ہاتھوں سے نکلے ہوئے صفحات ضایع نہیں ہوتے‘ یہ اس وقت تک دنیا میں رہتے ہیں جب تک پڑھنے والوں کی تشنگی باقی رہتی ہے‘ پڑھے لکھے اور ان پڑھ شخص میں صرف کتاب کا فرق ہوتا ہے۔ امیر تیمور جیسے لوگوں کی نگارشات دنیا میں ان پڑھ اور پڑھے لکھوں میں تفریق ہوتی ہیں اورقدرت اس تفریق کو برقرار رکھنے کے لیے ان کتابوں کو زندہ رکھتی ہے۔ آپ معاشروں کا تجزیہ کر لیں‘ آپ کو ان تمام معاشروں میں امن‘ سکون‘ کوالٹی آف لائف‘ برداشت‘ خوشی اور روحانی مسرت ملے گی جہاں کثرت سے کتابیں پڑھی جاتی ہیں اس کے برعکس جن ممالک میں کتابیں کم چھپتی ہیں‘ جہاں لائبریریاں مفقود ہوتی ہیں۔ وہاں روحانی کشیدگی بھی پائی جاتی ہے‘ وہاںغم اور غصہ بھی ہوتا ہے‘ برداشت کی کمی بھی‘ بے سکونی اور بدامنی بھی اور وہاں کے لوگ زندگی کی تمام نعمتیں پانے کے باوجود ناآسودہ بھی ہوتے ہیں۔ آپ اپنے ارد گرد نظر دوڑائیں آپ کو اپنے دائیں بائیں ایسے ہزاروں لوگ ملیں گے جن پر اللہ تعالیٰ کا ہر قسم کا کرم ہے‘ یہ دولت مند بھی ہیں‘ عزت دار بھی‘ بااثر بھی‘ صحت مند بھی اور بااقتدار بھی لیکن اس کے باوجود ان کی زندگی میں کوئی رنگینی نہیں‘ آپ انھیں ہمہ وقت مردم بیزار اور شاکی پائیں گے‘ اس کی بڑی وجہ کتاب سے دوری ہے‘ آپ زندگی میں ہر چیز حاصل کر سکتے ہیں لیکن آپ کتابوں کے بغیر ان چیزوں کو انجوائے نہیں کر سکتے‘ آپ کی کامیابیوں میں رس‘ مزہ اور ذائقہ کتابیں ہی ڈالتی ہیں‘ کتابیں اگر جنگی کامیابیوں‘ اقتدار اور دولت سے بڑی نہ ہوتیں تو دنیا کے نامور جنگجو‘ فاتح‘ بادشاہ اور دولت مندکبھی کتابیں نہ لکھتے یا نہ لکھواتے۔ آپ سکندر اعظم سے لے کر بل گیٹس تک دنیا بھر کے کامیاب لوگوں کے پروفائل نکال کر دیکھ لیں‘ آپ کو ہر بڑا اور کامیاب شخص دنیا میں کتاب چھوڑ کر جاتا ہوا نظر آئے گا‘ یہ کتاب اس کی کامیابیوں کا گر بھی ہوتی ہے اور اس کی ناکامیوں کا تجزیہ بھی اور زندگی کی اصل حقیقت بھی اور ہم جب تک ان کتابوں کا مطالعہ نہیں کرتے‘ ہم اس وقت تک زندگی‘ کامیابی اور ناکامی کی اصل جہتوں تک نہیں پہنچ پاتے۔

مطالعہ ایک عادت ہوتی ہے اور یہ عادت بھی دوسری عادتوں کی طرح باقاعدہ ڈالنا پڑتی ہے‘ آپ جب تک کتاب کو اپنی روزانہ مصروفیات کا حصہ نہیں بناتے‘ آپ اسے زندگی کے ڈسپلن میں نہیں لاتے‘ اس وقت تک کتابیں آپ کی عادت نہیں بنتیں۔ یورپ کے لوگ بچوں کو اسکول میں داخل کرانے سے پہلے کتابوں کی عادت ڈالتے ہیں‘ یہ بچوں کو بک شاپس لے کر جاتے ہیں‘ انھیں چھوٹی چھوٹی کتابیں خرید کر دیتے ہیں‘ یہ انھیں لائبریری لے کر جاتے ہیں اور انھیں وہاں سے کتاب حاصل کرنے کا طریقہ بتاتے ہیں‘ یہ انھیں گھر سے نکلتے ہوئے کتاب ساتھ رکھنے کی عادت بھی ڈالتے ہیں‘ آپ اگر کبھی یورپ‘ امریکا یا کسی دوسرے ترقی یافتہ ملک میں جائیں تو آپ کو لوگ ٹرینوں‘ بسوں‘ بس اسٹاپس اور پارکوں میں بیٹھ کر پڑھتے نظر آئیں گے‘ آپ کو ہر شخص کے ہاتھ میں اخبار دکھائی دے گا یا کتاب اور اسے جہاں جگہ ملے گی وہ بیٹھ کر کتاب یا اخبار کھولے گا اور پڑھنا شروع کر دے گا۔ یورپ اور امریکا میں زیادہ تر کتابوں کی پہلی اشاعت دس لاکھ کاپیوں پر مشتمل ہوتی ہے اور ان کی اشاعت بعدازاں کروڑوں تک پہنچ جاتی ہے۔ امریکا کی آبادی 31کروڑ 38لاکھ ہے لیکن وہاں ایسی ایسی کتابیں بھی موجود ہیں جو چالیس‘ چالیس کروڑ کی تعداد میں شایع ہوئیں ‘ ہم میں سے بھی ہر اس شخص کو مہینے میں تین چار کتابیں خریدنی چاہئیں جو پرائمری تک پڑھا لکھا ہے یا جو حروف اور اعدادو شمار پڑھ سکتا ہے۔ انگریزی کی شد مد رکھنے والے کو اردو کے ساتھ ساتھ انگریزی کتابیں بھی خریدنی چاہئیں کیونکہ یورپ اور امریکا علم میں ہم سے بہت آگے ہیں۔ ہمیں اپنے بچوں کوبھی کتابوں کی عادت ڈالنی چاہیے‘ ہم چھوٹے بچوں کو کتابیں خرید کر دیں اور ان سے وقتاً فوقتاً کتابوں کے بارے میں پوچھتے بھی رہیں‘ ہم جس طرح ہر ہفتے یا ہر مہینے گھر کا سودا خریدتے ہیں‘ ہمیں اسی طرح کتابوں کی دکانوں پر بھی جانا چاہیے اور وہاں سے گھر کے تمام افراد کے لیے کتابوں کی خریداری کرنی چاہیے‘ یہ درست ہے دوسری ضروریات کی طرح کتابیں بھی مہنگی ہو رہی ہیں لیکن مہنگی ہونے کے باوجود یہ آج بھی کپڑوں‘ جوتوں اور کڑاہی گوشت سے سستی ہیں‘ آپ بازار سے جوتا خریدتے ہیں تو اسے صرف آپ ہی استعمال کر سکتے ہیں‘ آپ کا جوتا آپ کا بیٹا یا بیگم نہیں پہن سکتی‘ اسی طرح آپ بھی اپنی بیگم کا جوتا پہن کر باہر نہیں آ سکتے لیکن آپ کی خریدی ہوئی کتاب آپ کی بیگم اور بچے بھی پڑھ سکتے ہیں‘ آپ کی کپڑوں اور جوتوں کی الماری ختم ہو جائے گی‘ آپ کے کپڑے‘ جوتے اور کھانا پرانا ہو جائے گا لیکن کتابیں پوری زندگی باسی اور پرانی نہیں ہوں گی‘ یہ عمر بھر آپ کا ساتھ دیں گی۔ ہم گھروں اور دفتروں میں ٹوائلٹ بھی بناتے ہیں اور کچن بھی۔

If we sit among educated people for a few hours a week, our knowledge will also increase, but these educated people are from a particular class. They should be scientists, historians, writers, religious scholars, bureaucrats and politicians so that you can have all kinds of knowledge. One's thinking will be limited and limited thinking is more dangerous than ignorance. You should also watch TV for a short time every day and half a quality movie in a week, read newspaper daily and use internet because these are also great sources of knowledge.
ہمیں ان کے ساتھ اسٹڈی یا چھوٹی سی لائبریری ضرور بنانی چاہیے‘ ہمارے گھر میں اگر اس کی گنجائش نہیں تو بھی ہم گھر کی کسی کھڑکی کے ساتھ کتابوں کی ایک دو شلف بنا سکتے ہیں‘ ہم گھر کے کسی روشن کونے میں ایک میز اور ایک کرسی رکھ سکتے ہیں اور اسے اپنی اسٹڈی ڈکلیئر کر سکتے ہیں‘ ہم گھر سے نکلتے ہوئے تسبیح اور کتاب دونوں ساتھ رکھ سکتے ہیں‘ تسبیح ہمارا اﷲ تعالیٰ سے رابطہ قائم کرے گی‘ ہم چلتے پھرتے‘ خریداری کرتے ہوئے‘ دفتر اور دکان پر کام کرتے ہوئے تسبیح پڑھتے رہیں اور جوں ہی بیٹھنے کی فرصت ملے تو کتاب کھول لیں‘ اس سے ہمارا وقت بھی بچ جائے اور ہم فضول حرکتوں‘ لایعنی گفتگو سے بھی محفوظ رہیںگے۔ علم حاصل کرنے کا ایک طریقہ سوال بھی ہے‘ ہمارے ذہن میں روزانہ چار ہزار سوال پیدا ہوتے ہیں‘ ہم اگر جیب میں چھوٹی سی ڈائری رکھ لیں اور ہر سوال اس ڈائری میں لکھ لیں اور ہمیں جوں ہی فرصت ملے ہم کتابوں‘ انٹرنیٹ اور عالموں کے ذریعے ان سوالوں کا جواب تلاش کر لیں تو ہمارے نالج بیس میں اضافہ ہو سکتا ہے‘ ہم ہفتے میں چند گھنٹے پڑھے لکھے لوگوں میں بیٹھ جائیں تو اس سے بھی ہمارے علم میں اضافہ ہو گا لیکن یہ پڑھے لکھے لوگ کسی ایک خاص طبقے سے نہیں ہونے چاہئیں‘ ان میں سائنس دان‘ مورخ‘ ادیب‘ مذہبی اسکالرز‘ بیوروکریٹس اور سیاستدان بھی ہونے چاہئیں تا کہ آپ کے پاس ہر قسم کا نالج آ سکے‘ آپ اگر ہر بار ایک ہی قسم کے لوگوں سے ملیں گے تو اس سے آپ کی سوچ محدود ہو جائے گی اور محدود سوچ بے علمی سے زیادہ خطرناک ہوتی ہے ۔ آپ روزانہ تھوڑی دیر کے لیے ٹی وی بھی دیکھیں اور ہفتے میں ایک آدھ معیاری فلم بھی‘ روزانہ اخبار بھی پڑھیں اور انٹرنیٹ کا استعمال بھی کریں کیونکہ یہ بھی علم کا بہت بڑا ذریعہ ہیں
