make sure you have the necessary supplies and a Prepare Your Workspace
Lightly sketch your design on the watercolor paper using a pencil. Keep the lines faint as they will need to blend with the watercolor. Start with simple shapes and outlines to guide your painting process.
wet your paper slightly with a clean brush and water. This technique called wet on wet allows colors to blend smoothly and creates soft edges.
Watercolor paints can be quite concentrated so start with a small amount of paint and add water to achieve the desired shade
Start with the background or larger areas using broad strokes. The first wash sets the tone for the painting and helps you build up layers of color gradually.
Once the first wash is dry start adding layers of color to build depth and dimension. Use less water and more paint for deeper hues. Focus on adding details and textures to different elements of your painting. Experiment with different brush strokes and techniques.
blend colors while they are still wet. If you make a mistake or want to lighten an area use a clean damp brush to lift the color gently. You can also use paper towels to blot excess paint or water.
Allow your painting to dry completely before adding final touches.
Final Touches
Once your painting is dry,add any final details or highlights. Use a fine brush for intricate work. You can also add a signature to complete your masterpiece.
