Mochi Recipe

the chewy and sweet delight of homemade mochi. This traditional Japanese treat is fun to make and delicious to eat

Ingredients to be used

  • 1 cup glutinous rice flour
  • 1 cup water
  • one forth cup sugar
  • Potato starch or cornstarch for dusting it
  • Optional fillings sweet red bean paste fruit pieces ice cream

Instructions to be followed

  1. In a microwave safe bowl mix the glutinous rice flour and sugar together.
  2. add water to the mixture stirring until smooth.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap leaving a small gap for steam to escape.
  4. Microwave on high for 2 minutes. Stir the mixture then microwave for another 1 2 minutes until the mochi becomes slightly sticky.
  5. . Carefully transfer the hot mochi onto the surface.
  6. Dust your hands with starch to prevent sticking and knead the mochi gently to cool it down.
  7. Roll the mochi into a log and cut it into equal pieces.
  8. Flatten each piece and place your desired filling in the center. Pinch the edges to seal and form a ball.
  9. Dust the finished mochi with more starch .
