Vada Pav Recipe

this is a delicious and spicy Vada Pav at home with this simple recipe. Perfect for a tasty snack or light meal

Ingredients to be used

  • 4 to 6 pav soft bread rolls
  • 4 to 6 medium potatoes boiled and mashed
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 2 to 3 green chilies finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons coriander leaves chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

For the Batter

  • 1 cup gram flour besan
  • half teaspoon turmeric powder
  • half teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed

Instructions to be follwed

  1. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add chopped onions green chilies and ginger garlic paste. Saute until onions turn golden brown.
  2. Add turmeric powder red chili powder and salt
  3. Add mashed potatoes, lemon juice and coriander leaves. Mix thoroughly. Cook for 2 3 minutes. Let the mixture cool and then shape into small balls
  4. In a separate bowl prepare the batter by mixing gram flour turmeric powder red chili powder salt and water to make a thick smooth batter.
  5. Heat oil in a deep frying pan. Dip each potato ball into the batter ensuring it is evenly coated, and then deep fry until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  6. Slice the pav horizontally and lightly toast with a bit of butter on a hot pan.
  7. Place a vada between the pav slices. Serve hot with chutney or fried green chilies.
