Cephalometric Landmarks
In most cases, cephalometric landmarks used to explain the skeletal patterns and relationships together with the degree of differences in treatment and which kind of appliance/appliances needed to be given to the patient suffering from malocclusion.
It is performed using tracing paper with a sharp pencil and a good background illumination in a dark room or space.
The most common points studied in cephalometric analysis includes the following;
1- Bolton's point
It is the highest point on the concavity behind the occipital condyle.
2- Basion point
It i magnum a cranial foramen
3- Articulare
It is the point intersecting the posterior cranial base and the posterior contour of the condylar process.
4- Spheno-occipital chondrosis
It is the junction between the occipital and Sphenoid bone/chondrosis
5- Sella
It is the midpoint of the sella turcica.
6- Pterygomaxillary Fissure
The fissure is divided into anterior and posterior base.
7- Orbitale
It is spotted at the floor of the inferior margin of the orbit.
8- Anterior Nasal Spine (ANS)
The tip or point are to make part at the front of the ANS
9- Posterior Nasal Spine (ANS)
It is actually a derived land mark such as point A. It is a point at posterior end of the nasal congestion.
