Anglo-Saxons built their houses and huts mainly using wood. Although some of their churches made of stone survived long. Britain has lots of woods in forest which aids Anglo-Saxons in wooden buildings
A single room is usually used for merry making , eating and entertained visitors and friends. The houses were usually made facing the sun rays in order to get as much heat and light as possible.
Moreover, the halls were usually known to be the largest residential quarters as it comprises a chief with his warrior followers and members. He lived there with his warrior followers. The characteristics of the hall is high length, width and full of smokes, with the fire on a stone in middle area of the hall. The smoke from the fires escaped through the roof.
The windows were slit made called eye-holes. There were no glass in the windows. Shields and antlers were noticed on the window. Filthy floors were usually observed with rushes of river banks noticed as well. At times oxen could be spotted by visitors in the end of the hall residence.
Last but not least, Anglo-Saxon villages usually are very small and even the largest villages had no more than few people living there. The villages were constructed near natural resources. The village members need food, water and fuel for heating and cooking and likewise materials for their homes and clothes. These natural resources had to provide and create an enabling environment for villager so as to get what they need to survive and be happy with one another.
