First of all, the Romans believed that a person's soul or spirit would go to the underworld after death. To get the underworld destination the dead needed to pass across to river Styx. The dead person's family would leave a coin on the dead body to pay the ferryman. The ferryman's name is Charon.
The Romans stayed in Britain nearly 400 years.
However, the Romans left Britain because their houses in Italy were being struck by fierce tribes and they needed every soldier for the counter attack and protection of their homes.
Though Romans might have invaded Britain either for revenge against the Celtic people or for resources such as gold, silver, coal and so on. There was some benefits that were actually gotten from them during their occupation of Britain, which are as follows:
1- Language
2- The calendar
3- Laws and legal system
4- The census
5- Building forts for protection of Britain and so on.
Language
The Romans spoke and also wrote in Latin and so many English words are also based on Latin words.
Calendar
The Gregory calendar used today in most parts of the world was started by Julius Caesar the Roman general. It is calculated based on earth revolving around the sun.
It is a 365 day year calendar, and 366 day for annual leaps. The month names were from Roman gods and rulers. Infact, the month of July is named after Julius Caesar himself and August was named after Augustus Caesar which was said to be his brother.
Laws and Legal System
The laws and the ways by which determines how to deal with someone who is accused of breaking a law came from the Roman empire in order to control the Roman Britain during their moment of occupation.
