The Anglo-Saxons liked eating and drinking among themselves and would often have feasts in the hall. The food was cooked over the burning fired in the middle of the resident place. Meat is usually roasted and taken with bread.

They are noted for drinking ale and mead which is a kind of beer sweetened with honey served with great cups and large horns of animals. After a feast is done, a "minstrel" would play harp and sings song of heroes and war victories.

Anglo-Saxons who are known for being mostly farmers and warriors ate what they grew. These include the following:

1- Cereals which are wheat and rye for bread production, barley for brewing processing and oats taken as porridge and for making animal foods.

2- Vegetables which include peas, beans, legumes, onion, carrots, cucumber, and cabbage.

3- Fruits such as plums, apples, cherries among others.

Some of the new food of modern world such as potatoes, tomatoes, bananas, and pineapples, fruits and vegetables were unknown to the Anglo-Saxons.

The Anglo-Saxons drinks were mostly made with barley which is notable for making beers. They mostly preferred barley beer to water. River water was mostly contaminated and polluted. Wine was only consumed by the very rich.

Most Anglo-Saxons were vegetarians because they couldn't afford to get meat very often. Only little among many could afford to slaughter an animal.

4- Animals
Pigs meat was the favourite of the Anglo-Saxons. Every other kind of animal served other purposes and only got killed when old or ill. Sheeps were also reared for their meat and wools. Cows were reared for their milk and when they were old they were slaughtered for hides, skin, meat and glue.

Last but not least as regards marine and freshwater animals. Anglo-Saxons ate fish which they caught in the rivers and the seas during fishings and outings.
