Photosynthesis
"Photosynthesis, the process by which green plants and certain other organisms transform light energy into chemical energy. During photosynthesis in green plants, light energy is captured and used to convert water, carbon dioxide, and minerals into oxygen and energy-rich organic compounds."Source
Photosynthesis in literal terms means using light (photo) to make something (synthesis) which implies the use of light energy by green plants to make their own food which is glucose or carbohydrate that is being stored as starch.
Photosynthesis is the way that plants make food. That is, the use of carbondioxide and water to make glucose and oxygen.
Photosynthesis is a chemical reaction. It can be summarised using a word equation and chemical equation:
Carbondioxide+ Water >>> Glucose+ Oxygen
6CO2 + 6H20>>>> C6H12O6+6O2
Energy Transfer
The photosynthesis as a chemical reaction requires energy for it to activate the reactants which is water and carbondioxide. This energy comes from sunlight.
During photosynthesis, the plant leaves through the chlorophyll absorb the energy of light.
The energy produced from photosynthesis is stored in the glucose that is made.
In a nutshell, glucose is a store of chemical potential energy.
That's all as regards brief insight as to what photosynthesis is all about. More would be greatly reviewed in the subsequent posts. Thanks for the support and keep it rocking with honour.
