BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir spoke about the election in a discussion meeting in the capital on Saturday.
Mirza Fakhrul said, "We want to see what the chief adviser wants to do and present it to the people very quickly." He will organize a snap election through a road map.
He said, 'I want to emphasize a lot on the election. Elections are very important when it comes to reforming the state. The country should be reformed through an elected parliament. There is no alternative. I do not believe that a few people will make a reformation. This reform should be done through people's participation. Those who are in charge of the interim government are all qualified persons.'
Fakhrul said, "We have a lot of expectations from the interim government. We think they will arrange elections within a reasonable time. We have confidence in this government, people have confidence, everyone has confidence. But it must be done within a limited time, within a period, within a reasonable time. Otherwise the purpose will be completely defeated.He said, "The hero of fascism Sheikh Hasina has escaped." But some of their friends have fled and some are hiding. We don't want to see those people who have sided with Hasina and who have tortured and looted the people as advisers to the interim government. We get worried seeing them with important people.'
BNP Secretary General said, "There was no agenda-based discussion with the political parties in the real sense with this government. The government should know the opinion of the political parties. The interim government must consult with the political parties. We have to take care that counter-revolution does not happen.
He said, "The interim government should hold talks with the political parties to meet the urgent needs of the people." Arrangements must be made as to how an election can be expedited. A new future has come before us today. All garbage should be uprooted and the country should be taken forward.
The Secretary General of BNP also said, "Some people have already been killed in the flood. Millions of people are stuck in water. People's houses were washed away. We sympathize with them and promise to stand by them.”This discussion meeting was organized on the occasion of the 9th death anniversary of former prime minister Kazi Zafar Ahmad, the then general secretary of the National Awami Party founded by the oppressed public leader Maulana Bhasani, and one of the organizers of the Liberation War, at Abdus Salam Hall of Jatiya Press Club.
