The prime minister's office informed that the head of government congratulated the cricketers on getting the news of the victory on Saturday morning before leaving for India.
Tigers skipper Shanto won the toss and sent the Sri Lankans into bat at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Saturday.Sri Lanka collected 124 runs after losing 9 wickets in 20 overs on leg spinner Rishad Hossain and Mostafizur Rahman's bowling balls.
For the Lankans, Pathum Nishanka scored 47 off 28 balls and Dhananjaya De Silva scored 21 runs off 26 balls. Rishad and Mustafiz took 3 wickets each for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh restricted Sri Lanka to short runs with controlled bowling by the bowlers. Then it was up to the batters. Tiger batsmen had to get a lot of speed to chase the modest target of 125 runs. But in the end, Bangladesh won. The Tigers beat the Lankans by 2 wickets in their first T20 World Cup match. Nazmul Hossain Shantar's team started the World Cup mission with the victory.
