You wouldn't believe how much we have in common.

Most people agree that morality and ethics are culturally contingent, differing among cultures, and are 'equally acceptable.' They act as though different groups are alien to one another and have completely distinct ideas about what is good or terrible or right or wrong. Although there are differences in some aspects, I believe that most people have a deep-seated understanding of what is right and wrong.

Most feel that murder, assault, rape, and other crimes are wrong and seek peace, kindness, and friendship. Unless an outside party justifies or approves it. War and violence may be lauded, but I believe that once a person reaches a certain level of self-awareness, everyone understands that pride, greed, bloodlust, suppressed wrath and rage, and sometimes unbridled thirst, are frequently the root of or symptoms of pain.

I believe that there is a fundamental ethical sense that all people have, regardless of cultural or religious influences. One may have different laws on what is legal to kill—both humans and animals—what is acceptable to eat or wear, a partnership arrangement, or a sexual act. I believe that our shared humanity, with essentially similar aspirations, hopes, goals, fears, and insecurities, is more significant than any cultural differences in the ways that we self-legislate, regardless of whether this is a result of God's divine law or something that is inherently inherent in us.

Postmodern theory holds that everything is a product of the individual or society, and therefore, everything has equal validity. But if that's the case, then is it appropriate for us to denounce and condemn atrocities committed in other nations? My remarks could be interpreted by some as an attempt to downplay the distinctions; instead, I'm refuting the notion that they are more widespread than they are intrinsically similar. Dehumanizing and taking advantage of particular cultures or races has frequently been justified by the belief that they are immoral, degenerate savages.
