My search for the answers to the major questions has greatly increased in the last several months. In an effort to make sense of things that we humans have not yet fully comprehended, I frequently find myself reading a lot and conducting extensive research late into the night.
The human intellect is among those items. It seems ironic that we don't fully comprehend our own minds. I am referring to a more general idea here rather than the brain, which I also do not entirely grasp.
While reading about it, I saw a video of a guru named Sadhguru—not one of those religious gurus who seem as though they are knowledgeable but are ignorant—who gave an extremely accurate description of the mind. He claims that the mind is made possible by the interaction of its four dimensions. Let's now examine these dimensions.
Intelligence
One of our "flagship features" that makes us unique from other creatures on the earth is this. Through hundreds of thousands of years, humans developed from apes to become a sophisticated species.
The development of contemporary civilization and our position at the top of the food chain are direct results of our capacity to comprehend things and apply them to our advantage. In our understanding of nature, we have come a long way since the discovery of fire.
With the resources at our disposal, we have also produced things, including technology that was previously thought to be magical. Our intellect made it possible for all of this to happen. The world appears to be changing at a rapid rate, with scientific and technological advancements prioritizing intelligence over all other human capacities.
Identity
It is rather simple to understand and represents the second dimension of the mind. From an individual perspective, our identity is really significant. It establishes your own identity and place in this community.
The identity is not one-dimensional; rather, it has multiple layers. You could identify as a mother, a musician, an American, a daughter, or any combination of these identities.
Although this is already common knowledge, the guru also discussed another crucial point. He asserted that our intelligence serves to safeguard the identity we presume. This implies that the mind will constantly attempt to support and legitimize our identities.
This is a crucial realization because it suggests that our identities could be the cause of our prejudice and could also explain the origins of our ego.
Memories
Much of our identity is shaped by our memories. We form and preserve memories about relationships with various individuals, skill sets, information, and a variety of other topics starting in our early years.
One may claim that a person is nothing more than an empty shell if they are memoryless. This is due to the fact that memory is essential to intellect and identity. A major issue arises when you lose your memory since you also lose your sense of self.
Additionally, you can lose the knowledge you have acquired over time, which could be detrimental to your intelligence. For instance, you might forget everything you need to know to perform your work!
Thus, memory combines with identity and intelligence to form who you are.
Consciousness
This one is quite significant. Actually, awareness is still one of those enigmas that we are unable to fully understand. However, we are aware that consciousness is essential to our continued existence as sentient beings.
As a matter of fact, it functions as a rope—a kind of glue—that connects the many mental levels. You are aware of yourself, your life, your surroundings, and even the passing of time because of your consciousness.
Another component in this category that guarantees your survival is your subconscious. It makes sure your food is properly digested, that you continue to breathe, and that it performs all other essential tasks.
