Our world is one of specialized knowledge. Every portion of the body has a surgeon, every legal matter has a lawyer, and every technical problem has an engineer. We are conditioned to respect those who are specialists in their industries as a result, but the contrary is also true: why would we listen to someone if they are not an expert in their field? We don't call our barber for guidance on home renovations or ask our cardiologist for stock market tips. As a result, we submit to dozens and dozens of people in our life depending on their expertise in a certain subject.
We risk treating the Lord like one expert among many if we are not careful. Failure to submit to God's rule and reign in every aspect of life is one of the main causes of weak and undeveloped faith. Consider the impact that these lines from Proverbs 3:6 have.
God is in charge of everything in life. He is the source of life and keeps us breathing. He is neither a "part" of a well-rounded existence nor just one choice among many. His kingdom is the prism through which all aspects of our lives must be viewed; he is life. He is never unimportant or uninvolved in any circumstance or situation. He adores us and longs to accompany us on our journey through the highs and lows of life. In addition to walking alongside us, he will guide us into a more tranquil and magnificent life than we could ever dream for ourselves if we will humble ourselves and take a step back.
