Good morning, dear friends, and welcome to another beautiful new week.
(Today's verse Read Proverbs 13:20)
Although knowledge is an essential part of who we are, it is all too simple to dismiss it as a cerebral abstraction when, in reality, it is designed to enliven and influence the lives we lead. Nevertheless, they are not mutually exclusive. Our path to truth is paved with the fusion of behavior and knowledge.
Proverbs 13 provides us with important guidance on how to become smart rather than merely knowing about wisdom. As we follow the discipleship road alongside others, our lives are changed. Christianity is a team sport, as I've heard it said over the years, and living with people whose religion you respect and admire is one of the best ways to become the person God has created you to be.
Do you know any wise people? Do you respect them from afar, or have you deliberately chosen to go close to them and absorb their knowledge up close? A life of closeness and intimacy is assumed when one walks with the wise. We may hold public figures or reliable voices from the past in high regard, but we do not live our lives in their shoes. Our lives are most in need of sage friends and traveling companions.
Additionally, our proverb serves as a reminder of an opposing but equally significant danger, much like how walking with the wise makes us like them. We run the risk of becoming idiots ourselves if we spend time with stupid individuals. We are profoundly shaped and molded by the people we spend our time with, whether for good or bad. Understanding this fact and living with a sharp awareness of the risks and opportunities of coexisting with others are both encouraged by wisdom. Take some time today to think freely and honestly about the people you live your life with. Think about the brave, vulnerable, and trusting actions you may take to become a wiser person every day.
"Sing to the LORD a new song—His praise in the assembly of the godly. Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the children of Zion rejoice in their King. Let them praise His name with dancing, and make music to Him with tambourine and harp. For the LORD takes pleasure in His people; He adorns the afflicted with salvation." - Psalm 149:1-4"
