Good morning, dear friends, and welcome to another wonderful day.
If you're acting out of fear, you can't feel love. You can't let go of fear and open your heart. You will become unduly defensive, and hearts that are defensive are incapable of loving. Fear will make you question your identity and your capacity for love. It will lead you to accept the falsehoods that you cannot be who you truly are among other people, that you are unworthy of love, or that you must earn love.
In relationships, fear can make you give too much of yourself, set unrealistic limits, or close your heart if you're eager for love and you believe the lies that you're unworthy of it. You won't be able to experience love because of pride. Superiority complexes, such as thinking you're better than other people or that other people are inept or foolish, can be the source of pride.
Shame and insecurity can also be the source of pride. In other words, I might seem superior because I hide my flaws with pride because I am so consumed with self-loathing that I can't bear the idea of facing them. Making friends with pride is much simpler than acknowledging that I need to change if I truly suffer with uncertainty and shame. This will have a significant impact on my capacity to offer and receive love. Others must feel emotionally comfortable in order to love us, and pride stands in the way of emotional safety.
When pride is based on superiority, self-centeredness results. When pride is based on guilt and insecurity, it remains entirely self-centered. Being arrogant repels others and is the enemy of love.
Fear and pride prevent us from loving because they make us self-centered, whereas love is focused on others. Love requires us to become others-focused and unselfish in order to offer and receive it.
Self-protection—which might take the form of pride or fear—must give way in order to love others. When we are aware of our love and safety in the arms of our Savior, we can experience this. Nothing can take away our complete love, which allows us to love totally.
"Sing to the LORD a new song—His praise in the assembly of the godly. Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the children of Zion rejoice in their King. Let them praise His name with dancing, and make music to Him with tambourine and harp. For the LORD takes pleasure in His people; He adorns the afflicted with salvation." - Psalm 149:1-4"
