An expression used to denote something negative
Howdy, Blurt. Many times we have heard, that a person when he does not keep the same line of education or some bad habit of his own family, is a "Black Sheep". But why is this said? Well, because most flocks of sheep are white and a black sheep indicates a difference, and black is considered in many aspects as something negative or out of the norm. But is it really a bad thing to be the black sheep? Today we know that it is not necessarily so, all our lives we have heard that a black sheep does not adhere to family customs, often because he or she does not want to study, does not choose the career that his or her parents want for him or her, does not have the same customs of his or her family and so on and so forth.
Que tal, Blurt. Muchas veces hemos escuchado, que una persona cuando no mantiene la misma línea de educación o alguna mala costumbre de su propia familia, es una “Oveja Negra”. Pero, ¿por qué, se dice esto? Pues, porque la mayoría de los rebaños de ovejas tienen color blanco y una negra indica una diferencia, además el color negro en muchos aspectos se considera como algo negativo o fuera de la norma. Pero, ¿es realmente algo malo ser la oveja negra? Actualmente sabemos que no necesariamente es asi, toda la vida hemos escuchado que una oveja negra no se adhiere a las costumbres familiares, en muchas ocasiones porque no quiere estudiar, no elige la carrera que sus padres quieren para él o ella, no tiene las mismas costumbres de su familia y un largo etc.

In a family where there are several brothers, and in it there is a tradition of respectable doctors, with a somewhat orthodox education and customs closely linked to very marked behaviors in who are going to be their friends, what places they frequent, always maintain an image of social position, etc., are one of the features, for this case. But one of the brothers, decided not to study medicine, but undertook a commercial project of sales of any item, he does not think that creating his own family is something to prioritize at the moment, he keeps in constant adventure, where travel and extreme situations fill his life, this is called "the black sheep" of the family, since living traveling opened the doors to sensitivity and not to see social classes but, what is in his feelings; here his relatives do not agree with this, they enter in contradiction and in one way or another keep their distance.
¿Qué se considera como oveja negra de la familia?:En una familia donde existen varios hermanos, y en ella hay una tradición de médicos respetables, con una educación un tanto ortodoxa y costumbres muy ligadas a comportamientos muy marcados en quienes van a ser sus amigos, que lugares frecuentan, mantener siempre una imagen de posición social, etc., son uno de los rasgos, para este caso. Pero uno de los hermanos, decidió no estudiar medicina, sino que emprendió un proyecto comercial de ventas de cualquier rubro, no piensa en que crear su propia familia es algo que deba priorizar de momento, se mantenga en constante aventura, donde los viajes y situaciones extremas llenan su vida, este es llamado ”la oveja negra” de la familia, puesto que vivir viajando le abrió las puertas a la sensibilidad y a no ver clases sociales sino, lo que hay en sus sentimientos; acá sus familiares no de acuerdo con esto, entran en contradicción y de una forma u otra mantienen distancia.
Is it bad, then, to be the black sheep?
Seen from a human point of view or taking into account certain characteristics, such as those mentioned above, this expression is not really something negative. It may be so by tradition, but if, in a family of lawyers, someone decides to be a musician and be carried away by the feeling of music, it is not bad; he may be called a black sheep, but if he becomes a great musician or orchestra conductor, this is also a source of pride for a family that is strongly linked to the law and law firms. A writer, or even a humorist, is not a source of ridicule for a family with specific social or educational currents. I am not and will not take into account criteria other than what is perhaps deviating from a family current, the case of misconduct or illicit matters should already be out of these terms, as it is certainly a social detriment.

Be the sheep you want to be
If in a family of musicians, if someone does not feel identified with an instrument, but has a strong ability for business, science or engineering, it should be a source of pride and not discourage anyone because mom or dad wants a guitarist or pianist in the family, it is good to have that engineer, who will bring a different way of conversation within the family events, it is always important diversity, then, you can be that black sheep that gives a different color to the family.
