Research and scientific knowledge are shown in this magnificent book by "Carl Sagan" that shows us, as a study tool, the way in which we can face the unknown without losing the perspective of the real, according to his criteria. This book is not a recipe to understanding, but a way to find with sustainable arguments the critical thinking regarding several scientific topics and humanity.

Hace apenas un siglo, creíamos que existían solo 9 planetas y ahora gracias a la investigación conocemos de la existencia de más de 200 cuerpos con masa lo suficientemente grandes como para considerarlos planetas enanos, hace apenas dos décadas los teléfonos celulares a color eran cosa de pensamientos imposibles y gracias a la investigación en avances tecnológicos tenemos dispositivos lo suficientemente poderosos como para almacenar Gigas de información y conexiones en tiempo real, que caben en nuestras manos. La investigación y el conocimiento científico hacen gala en este magnífico libro de “Carl Sagan” que nos muestra, como herramienta de estudio, la forma en cómo podemos enfrentar lo desconocido sin perder la perspectiva de lo real, esto según su criterio. Este libro no es una receta al entendimiento, sino una forma de encontrar con argumentos sustentables el pensamiento crítico respecto a varios temas científicos y de la humanidad.

"The world and its demons" shows us an explicit way of how to appreciate things without losing perspective or following a single method, that scientifically it is incorrect to only grant the truth to a single investigation or a single truth, doubt is the basis of any search for truth. In the book we are taught that everything they do not say is questionable if it does not have a sustainable basis or principle, i.e., it is easy to talk about water being liquid, there is no doubt of this truth, but this is only under specific temperature and pressure conditions, it is true that water is liquid, but it can also be solid and gaseous, under certain conditions and based on this it is important to always maintain, with a logical basis, the search for new forms or the search for more answers. This book begins with an experience in Sagan's life when he was on his way to one of his symposiums, he has a conversation with a cab driver who shows a wrong way about a specific and already proven subject, leading Sagan to understand that humanity is easily manipulated if we leave our criteria in the hands of a leader who manages it and his actions are not questioned. Sagan in each chapter specifies how necessary it is to leave a margin for doubt and experimentation, thus teaching us to manage critical thinking and to apply skepticism; be careful, he does not talk about being skeptical of what is real and already proven but to keep (with criteria) a window open to a new theory. It is important to know that as we advance in the reading we get to know ways and methods to achieve the means to recognize valid or erroneous ideas within what is considered true or can be verified, that is why it is important to know the methods, so as not to fall into the argumentation of pseudoscience, which deals with unsustainable ideas, facts or laws already proven. It should be noted that the book does not have a highly scientific language, in this case Carl Sagan uses a very general way to understand each point and yes, it is clear that some things should be deepened in the study for people outside science, but it is nothing out of the parameters of the understandable. It is very likely that this new generation, instead of understanding more clearly what is presented here, may distort some ideas, since (it must be admitted) the same technological progress gives us tools that take us away from research and creativity; it is something that surely Professor Sagan would not be proud of.
“El mundo y sus demonios” nos muestra una forma explícita de como apreciar las cosas sin perder la perspectiva o siguiendo un solo método, que científicamente es incorrecto solo conceder la verdad a una sola investigación o a una sola verdad, la duda es la base de toda búsqueda de la verdad. En el libro nos enseñan a que todo lo que no dicen es cuestionable si no tiene una base o principio sustentable, es decir, es fácil hablar de que el agua es líquida, no hay dudas de esta verdad, pero esto es solo bajo condiciones de temperatura y presión específicas, es verdad que el agua es líquida, pero también puede ser sólida y gaseosa, bajo ciertas condiciones y en base a esto es importante siempre mantener, con una base lógica, la búsqueda de nuevas formas o la búsqueda de más respuestas. Este libro empieza con una experiencia en la vida de Sagan cuando se dirigía a uno de sus simposios, tiene una conversación con un taxista que muestra una manera errónea acerca un tema específico y ya probado, llevando a Sagan a entender que la humanidad es fácilmente manipulable si dejamos nuestro criterio en manos de un líder que la maneje y sus acciones no sean cuestionadas. Sagan en cada capítulo específica lo necesario que es dejar un margen a la duda y a la experimentación, de esta forma nos enseña a manejar un pensamiento crítico y a aplicar el escepticismo; cuidado, no se habla de ser escéptico a lo real y ya probado sino a mantener (con criterio) una ventana abierta a una nueva teoría. Es importante sabe que a medida que avanzamos en la lectura se van conociendo formas y métodos para lograr los medios para reconocer ideas válidas o erróneas dentro de lo que se considere cierto o se pueda verificar, es por esto que es importante conocer los métodos, para no caer en la argumentación de la pseudociencia, que trata ideas poco sostenibles, de hechos o leyes ya probadas. Cabe destacar que el libro no tiene un lenguaje altamente científico, en este caso Carl sagan usa una forma muy general para lograr entender cada punto y si, es claro que en algunas cosas se debe profundizar en el estudio para personas ajenas a la ciencia, pero no es nada fuera de los parámetros de lo entendible. Tomaremos en cuenta tres factores en este libro: 1. ¿De qué trata el libro? 2. Ritmo del libro 3. ¿Cuáles son las consecuencias de leer este libro? Es muy probable que esta nueva generación en vez de entender con mayor claridad lo que acá se plantee, pueda tergiversar algunas ideas, ya que (hay que admitirlo) el mismo avance tecnológico nos da herramientas que nos alejan de la investigación y la creatividad; es algo del que seguramente el profesor sagan, no estaría orgulloso.

The book essentially tries to find a praiseworthy and effective way to maintain critical thinking without straying from reality, using correct language and without falling into fiction. It also talks about the fact that some of the so-called pseudo-sciences such as astrology should not be severely questioned, since they have within their criteria, themes and scientific laws, which to be totally disapproved must be subjected to a deep study. He also maintains a powerful criticism to the North American educational system and how not to question also the Latin American one.
El libro trata en esencia de buscar una manera loable y eficaz de mantener el pensamiento crítico sin alejarse de la realidad, manejando un lenguaje correcto y sin caer en la ficción. Además habla de que no se debe tampoco cuestionar severamente algunas de las llamadas seudociencias como la astrología, dado que poseen dentro de sus criterios, temas y leyes científicas, que para ser totalmente desaprobadas deben ser sometidas a un estudio profundo. Además mantiene una poderosa crítica al sistema educativo norteamericano y como no cuestionar también al latinoamericano.

Tomando esto en consideración es importante más que todo usar este libro como fórmula para ir en búsqueda de nuestra propia estructura crítica, manejando los conceptos de la manera más correcta posible y usando siempre la lógica.

Among the most powerful consequences of reading this book is, more than anything else, to obtain a way to be able to think more logically and not be manipulated by strange concepts or false science and even false prophets.
Dentro de las consecuencias más poderosas de leer este libro es más que todo, lograr obtener un camino para poder pensar con mayor lógica y no dejar ser manipulados por conceptos extraños ni falsa ciencia e incluso de falsos profetas.

He was one of the most respected astrophysicists of the time, he was also a cosmologist, astrobiologist and astronomer as well as an associate professor at Harvard University. Truly a professor of the highest level in the area of astrophysics, with countless contributions to science.
