In this video, Terence McKenna explains his theory behind why the universe keeps getting more complex (Novelty Theory). This audio is from Terence McKenna's "Final Interview" in 1998.

Terence Kemp McKenna (November 16, 1946 – April 3, 2000) was an American ethnobotanist and mystic who advocated the responsible use of naturally occurring psychedelic plants. He spoke and wrote about a variety of subjects, including psychedelic drugs, plant-based entheogens, shamanism, metaphysics, alchemy, language, philosophy, culture, technology, ethnomycology, environmentalism, and the theoretical origins of human consciousness.

McKenna formulated a concept about the nature of time based on fractal patterns he claimed to have discovered in the I Ching, which he called novelty theory, proposing that this predicted the end of time, and a transition of consciousness in the year 2012. His promotion of novelty theory and its connection to the Maya calendar is credited as one of the factors leading to the widespread beliefs about the 2012 phenomenon.

Death is the fundamental mystery of life. It is certain for all and yet we do not know what it means. The mystery can be reduced to simple dilemmas. When we die does everything end for us, or is there some way that we go on? Is there nothing more to us than the sum of our material parts, or does the soul exist? Is the notion of the soul a figment of human psychology, or perhaps an invention of religion? Or could it be something wonderfully real?

This script was written and recorded by Graham Hancock, a British author of countless bestselling books such as, Magicians of the Gods, America Before, The Sign and the Seal, Fingerprints of the Gods, Heaven's Mirror, Underworld, Supernatural and others. He is also the creator of the Netflix series, "Ancient Apocalypse"

McKenna's novelty theory reminds me a lot of the whole of Ray Kurzweil's concept of the singularity, even though Kurzweil puts a higher emphasis on technological progress. At least as far as I remember.

Have a good one!
