The first question to be asked after reading the title, “are they?”.

Post Disclaimer:

This post was written based on information that are in a book called “The Underground History Of American Education”.

It is not to be taken as a prototype of how schools are operating or anything. It is probably only the author’s opinion.

This post is not an advice of any sort. This is only parts read in this book

  1. Adaptability and Essential Skills
The achievement within an academic curriculum might not accurately predict an individual's success in the real world. This is because one of the most valuable skills a person can acquire is the ability to self-educate, a crucial tool for adapting to change. This capacity allows individuals to reshape themselves and acquire new knowledge to navigate a rapidly evolving world and economy. Consider a scenario where a student completes 12 years of schooling only to face the sudden impact of AI a year later. How well-prepared is this individual to adapt to such technological advancements?

The discussion isn't centered on whether the educational system is effective or not. Rather, it raises questions about whether a student's grades alone can gauge the depth of their learning or if the current curriculum is fostering the development of necessary skills. Furthermore, it prompts us to ponder whether these essential skills are being effectively evaluated.

  1. On Age Groups
Traditionally, students are grouped in classrooms based on age and past academic performance. However, it's pertinent to question whether all students possess similar learning capabilities and pace. This leads to an important inquiry: how significant is this factor, and to what extent should it be considered?

  2. On The Quality Of Education
In terms of educational quality, the author poses a thought-provoking query: “Do you think class size, teacher compensation, and school revenue have much to do with education quality? If so, the conclusion is inescapable that we are living in a golden age.”.
