In the year 2045, rewards are similar to rewards in the year 2024, except they are a double edged sword. The integration of man and machine in AI generated worlds has led to many dependent on drugs designed to moderate dopamine overload and a symbiosis between man and machine has been a major development.

Rewards release dopamine in our brain. We respond to stimuli that gives us a "high", and for most of human experience that was the result of hard work and sacrifice. Imagine the feels of being a caveman who happens upon a fertile valley full of prey and berries. Imagine also the evolution of our supply chains and technology designed to make comfort and entertainment easier and more accessible. Rewards took the form of in-game money, relationships with AI and NPCs and the avoidance of a crumbling world ecosystem plagued by persistent monetary inflation.

In 2045, virtual and augmented reality have been integrated with artificial intelligence technology for a seamless stimulation of our brains at all time. One can plug in to VR using either a helmet or brain implant and zone out into a world of pleasure. A prompt picked up by brain-impulse reading AI can generate an entire world. The effect of this interface caused a symbiosis between man and machine that led to a revolution in energy technology. Humans were spurred by machines to develop fusion, artificial chlorophyll and even a prototype dysonsphere in exchange for AI brain stimulation resulting in dopamine release and uptake.

Naturally, the reward center of the brain, the VTA, which produced dopamine can become overwhelmed after constant stimulation to this degree. The body can become insulin resistant as in diabetes, and in a similar fashion dopamine overload can lead to similar negative effects. Being rewarded for plugging in to a matrix of sorts left many depressed and callous.

Rewards are moderated with a drug in 2045 similar to diabetes drugs in 2024. The rewards that are fed to humans using their VR goggles and brain chips are instantaneous and abundant, leading to a flood of activity in the rewards center of the brain.

One of the most popular AI world simulation that rewards man is called "90s World". In the game, the user enters 1990s America and can fully participate in a lush and developing America with unlimited funds. This was a golden age in America, and people love to explore a more mechanical age before it became necessary to withdrawal into a virtual land ruled by AI. The AI can stimulate the brain in such a way to simulate taste, touch, smell and sensation. The computer simulation can even impact the inner ear to simulate balance.

Rewards and seeking rewards will always be part of the human experience. In the future, we will use tools to achieve our dreams even if they are nightmares at their core.
