The profiteers are at it again!
Like the second coming, they are again
putting up Africa for sale
to the highest bidder as the rest of us watch
without a slight of protest.
They are once again partitioning her bit by bit,
slice by slice, along tribal, political and country lines,
selling off her lands and natural resources,
and I hear no resounding, positive protest
from her citizens.
The racketeers are at their game again,
and all I hear is whispers
and distance murmurs from those whose dirty it is
to nip the protruding, cancerous tumor
at its formative stage.
They disguise their perilous acts and call it commerce
and foreign investment—investments
that only they, the selected few, enjoy
while the rest of us watch
from distances they have purposely created
to keep us away.
The mighty ship is sailing away one again
into a tumultuous sea of deception
and her spineless captains have neither the vision
nor the courage to steer her ashore or away
from a dangerous, protruding rock
Now what how have her passengers,
if those trained to man her believe mainly
in manning money
at the expense of pride, decency,
and human dignity!
