Anytime I remember this incident, I just laugh it out just to clear the little pain it bring with it because it was one silly mistake that would have been avoided. Firstly, I didn't even know how I manage to forget when I'm suppose to do my vehicle/insurance paper renewal, got lot of things going on and I kind of skip the date, was even thinking it is next year stuff and the increment in fuel price even boost the skipping scenario because I didn't touch the car for 1month+ until I have an urgent event to attend to at home last week. To me, my papers are complete so there is no need to really fear, so I just pick the car up and drove home without any issue, even police that stopped me were looking for money for the weekends.
After day 2, I was suppose to move to another town with my guys which is very far from home and I needed to past through Lagos, before leaving my town, this road safety people stopped me, asked for my license and papers which I gave them, those people didn't even bother to check it and started asking for other stuff like fire extinguisher, tyres etc which was there and next thing was, they will give me ticket because one tyre is already wearing out according to them which was a lie, they just want to extort us and get free money but we were able to leave the scene since we call someone to help us out. Let say they actually check my papers, it would have been a different case and maybe alert me that it has already expired and I will just use street OT for them that I already renew and was going to pick it up 😂😂😂 (would have save me from the extra punishment).
Boom I passed through Lagos successfully with out issue and reached my destination only for me to receive a beep message on whatsapp with my registration details, I thought they were scammers who got hold of my details and had to message one of my guy immediately before replying them and I got the shocking message, you drove with expired car papers and insurance license, I laugh at first before it struck me that maybe my paper already expired without me noticing and I ran to check, I was surprised that I can even forget stuff like that but while trying to run the renewal registration, I was told I had a bill that I need to pay since the camera captured me today while driving and I was like what bills, and I got the screenshot, A whooping 40k payment as punishment for driving in a day with expired papers, Ahh Lagos too do oo.
Anytime I come across the screenshot, I will just laugh because they tag it first offender yet there is on pardon, now I know what need to avoid or probably set a yearly reminder because this fee is too much because it even cover what you will be spending to renew those papers, I finally did Father christmas this year
