I think I'm pretty good with supernatural movies these days. I don't particularly pick them, but I've been seeing a lot of them lately and they always manage to surprise me. Coincidences are as valuable as the surprises they contain, don't you agree?
The Watchers, a movie that uses supernatural forces in a mysterious way and I thought it was a very gripping production, was remarkable in the way it blended suspense into the story.
The movie, which contains deep questions about human nature, has a clichéd beginning. A female character named Mina is left alone in a desolate and isolated forest after her car breaks down. Initially trying to explore her surroundings, she does not realize that she will be subjected to a physical and mental test.
I've said before that I like the way supernatural forces are dealt with in places like forests and outer space. The most important reason for this is that they are isolated and far away from human beings, and it is predicted that easy escape efforts will not work.
While realizing that you are being watched by mysterious beings is an event that can trigger tension on its own, being kept under their control in a place dominated by them makes the atmosphere even more tense. Thanks to the accuracy of the location and the acceptability of the editing, the movie offers extra viewing pleasure.
The simplicity of the plot and the idea of keeping a group of people under control, freeing them during the day and keeping them captive in a house at night, are a few details that make the story different and add to its memorability and acceptability. The wooded landscape in the west of Ireland chosen for such a setting adds depth and meaning to the story.
I remember watching many movies about fairies and humans, but the supernatural forces and the presence of fairies in the main theme of The Watchers set it apart. The dark scenes and dense fog effects make the atmosphere gloomy, while the way the threatening power of nature is used adds to the tension.
Especially the night scenes, both in the house and in the woods, are incredibly triggering. I can't say that the movie directly emphasizes the horror genre, but it makes you feel fear more than most horror movies.
I can say that the inner conflicts of the characters and their emotions that emphasize fear are reflected in an impressive way. The fact that beings with supernatural powers are not depicted visually, but rather by implication and the sounds they make, contributes to the mystery aspect of the movie and offers the viewer the chance to experience fear of the unseen.
What triggered my curiosity almost until the end was the question of who the watchers were and what their purpose was. Even though I got the answer to who they were, what their purpose was left a bit unanswered. In this respect, it can be seen as a small hint that there will be a sequel.
I recommend you to watch The Watchers for its impressive acting, mysterious scenes that touch on human psychology and especially the choice of locations. You have to be patient with the slow pace in the beginning because afterwards, they create a tremendous atmosphere of psychological tension and horror. I can say that it is a movie that I think should not be missed especially by those who love the tension of supernatural forces.
Thank you for being here and reading. Take care and goodbye!
This is probably one of the must-watch films of the year. When it comes to movies that has to do with mysteriousness, you can count me in. Nice review btw.
Thank you, have a good time if you watch.
