In comedy films, coincidental outcomes play an important role in the success of the movie. When a simple story with a coincidental plot twist is handled correctly, funny and entertaining scenes follow one after another and the movie achieves its goal.
When the characters keep up with the plot and keep the momentum of the movie moving upwards, the movie becomes a great viewing pleasure and a laugh riot. Who doesn't want to laugh?
The 2017 movie Jour J was a very, very successful production that I found very, very successful due to the fact that the plot progresses in more than one way, as well as the feature that directs the story as coincidences unfold one after the other.
What I liked most about the movie was that the characters were very suitable for the story of the movie and coincidence played an important role in the story of the movie. I can say that all the actors who brought the characters to life were successful. The story of the movie was that the dose of immersion and excitement was perfectly adjusted because of the competition between the events that developed by coincidence and the events that emerged again by coincidence.
I see it as an advantage for the movie that coincidence brings the unthinkable into the mind and is so effective in the story, as if it determines its own path. I remember a few love movies in which coincidence started the story and coincidence ended it; they were very successful and had a memorable effect. In Jour J, while the love is more faded, the positive effect of the coincidence similar to the comedy aspect of the movie made the movie more valuable. I prefer romantic comedy to romance, especially after seeing the movie.
The characters Mathias (played by Nicolas Devauchelle) and Juliette (played by Reem Kherici) were the main elements of the story that was started by the coincidence I mentioned and completed with a happy ending. The dialogues and general behavior of the duo were very appropriate to the atmosphere and story created in the film.
With the contribution of the other characters and successful shots; the scenes are full of laughter. I can say that the movie is definitely based on laughing and having fun. Moreover, while laughing, a fantastic world is not created, the story is based on realistic and real actions.
I would especially like to point out that; unusually, there are no below the belt jokes in the movie. This is not something we are very familiar with in comedy movies because in almost all productions that aim and succeed in making you laugh, the jokes are often below the belt. I'm not saying this to criticize, I'm saying it to highlight the success of a movie that doesn't have below the belt jokes.
I recommend the movie Jour J to anyone who wants to laugh. The subtle jokes and funny scenes caused by coincidence are worth seeing. A little abdominal and facial muscle work never hurt anyone. So let's laugh!
