Gloria, which tries to tell the story of a woman's struggle to move from a life of crime to a life where she realizes that sacrifices will not pay off by creating a strong female character, was remarkable for the dark and emotional tone of its story.
Before getting into the plot of the movie and the performance of Sharon Stone as Gloria, I should point out that this is a remake and that there are other versions of the movie, both earlier and later.
I am referring to the 1999 movie directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Sharon Stone as Gloria, a strong female figure.
Gloria, who protects the man she loves by taking on a crime she did not commit, wants to draw a new path the day she regains her freedom after years of being intertwined with the criminal world. While the path she tries to chart forms the main story of the movie, every challenge she faces in this process reveals many aspects of the character.
She crosses paths with Nicky (played by Jean-Luke Figueroa), the youngest son of the family killed by the criminal organization she was once part of.
Gloria's crossing paths with Nicky and her attempt to escape the world of crime coincide at the same time, and the intersecting paths of two different lives become the story of the movie, which I found gripping.
Gloria first appears as a tough character who faces the cruel side of life. As the story progresses, we see the character's emotional depth, her desire to live an independent life and her fearlessness in doing so.
We see that the emotional depth develops very slowly on the character. For this reason, the emotional aspect can be criticized, but considering the fact that he leads a very cruel life and his freedom is taken away, it is normal for many emotions to be dulled in the strong character stance put forward.
For my part, I can say that I see it as a positive that the emotionality, which may be considered insufficient, is slowly revealed on the character.
The movie deals with the criminal world it creates in a very simple way. Instead of dark and mysterious scenes, a brighter and simpler, understandable narrative method is adopted. For the viewer, this promises a light-hearted story and makes the character performances more important than they are.
The strong dramatic structure of the original movie is not fully captured in this movie, but thanks to the right use of action and pacing, the story is smoother and more enjoyable to watch.
I recommend watching Gloria for its story of a strong female character challenging the criminal world. Sharon Stone's energetic and emotionally moving performance is worth seeing.
Thank you for being here and reading, take care and goodbye!
