1 Thinking they are part of a routine week-long experiment, our heroes are calculating the money they will receive from the very beginning. Asking desperate people to become test subjects and promising large sums of money in return should not be too difficult in today's conditions.
According to some, the corona process that we are still recovering from has already made us all test subjects, completely free of charge, and in some places they even received money for masks, cologne, tests and immune-boosting drugs.
Anyway, let's go back to the movie and stick to the story. Released in 2023, the movie Double Blind is about drug trials and side effects on a group of 7 adult men and women for 1 week.
The new drug produced by the Blackwood company was developed on the working order of the human brain. Under the supervision of Dr. Burke (played by Pollyanna McIntosh) in an underground laboratory, the company conducts seven-day experiments on people who voluntarily agree to be subjects and monitors the results.
The movie has a normal flow until the experiments on the subjects and the side effects appear, but when the behavior of the subjects gets out of control, it turns into an excellent thriller. After the lockdown of the laboratory, the struggle for survival in a small space begins, which I've always loved in movies like this.
It's a pleasure to watch the struggle for survival and the characters' efforts to get out of the difficulties they are in, in movies that don't cover a huge area but involve great dangers. In such productions, I focus on the struggle of the characters rather than the performances of the actors.
Anyway, I didn't find the acting performance of any of the characters in the movie Double Blind adequate, each of the subjects was chosen from amateur souls and people in need of money. Their amateurism proved that the selection was really random.
Before the side effects appear, the characters' acceptance to be subjects for money is questioned in my mind and immediately afterwards; in the dialogues between the characters themselves. The dialogues of the characters reveal each of their own stories and in those moments the movie becomes mysterious and triggers a sense of curiosity.
Right after the side effects start to emerge and the laboratory is locked down; the fight for life begins. Scenes similar to gladiators thrown into the arena and forced to kill in order to live unfold and the pleasure of watching the movie multiplies. Of course, I wouldn't want to be there, I wouldn't be a part of such an experiment, but the money motivates the characters in such a way that none of them think about the side effects and the possibility of losing their lives.
Double Blind is quite successful in terms of location and story, unsuccessful in terms of actor performances, but the movie is still highly watchable because they have handled and reflected the tension well. I recommend watching the movie, there are not many disturbing scenes except for a few bloody ones.
