The legal and human rights activist in Nigeria, Femi Solana has reportedly said no state can said they new minimal level of procrastination the error.

Furthermore, amid the ongoing strike embarked on by labour workers and its members, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has said no state can lay claims having the capacity sustainability to pay and avail the minimum wage after the removal of fuel subsidy fee by president Tinubu at the beginning of his administration.

He stated this during an interview on Television show which was featured by every news media adding that the government cannot hinder or manipulate labour from embarking on industrial actions.

"There is no state in Nigeria today that cannot pay more than the minimum wage because the government removed fuel subsidy last year and President Tinubu told Nigerians that the money made from that policy will be used,"Falana said.Source

He also made it clear that any state government or employer of labour as an important factor of production and services that does not pay the national minimum wage as agreed upon this time around as through the assistance of his law firm and the labour unions activists are not going to permit and give chances to the non-payment of wages. Mr Falana said that if legal tussle is going court then money of workers should not be touched or used for such counter response.

During the programme, the human rights lawyer asked the Attorney General of the Federation, to drag and make legal proceedings against any state government that fails to pay recent 30,000 minimum wage.

He further said that since the payment of the minimum wage is an agreement between parties freely and signed, state governments failing to honour such a deal are breaching the law and needs to be sanctioned by legal redress

He also clarified that, once a new agreement such as a new minimum wage becomes the law of the country, the Federal Government has a duty, and the Attorney General of the country a role to seek legal sanctions against any state defaulting the agreement or drag any state government that does not pay to court and seek legal redress on it.

He also talked on local government issues by saying as quoted;
“I mean, the attorney general can just file a new case, which is a good development, by saying over the years, we have accused state governments of diverting monuments for local governments,” he said.Source

Falana also said state governments will be compelled to pay the minimum as the case may be.
