Perge, an ancient city nestled in Little Asia, held a special place in the journeys of Apostle Paul, having been graced by his presence not once, but twice. This city, frozen in time, offers a glimpse into a fascinating past—a convergence of Greek and Roman influence. In the photograph, a side street is captured, once home to a Greek gymnasium—an epicenter of physical and intellectual growth in its era.

Enthusiasts of history and adventure seekers would find Perge to be an irresistible destination. The modest 50 Lira entrance fee unlocks a treasure trove of history, a journey through an era when Greek civilization flourished, later giving way to the pervasive influence of the Roman Empire. As you traverse the remnants of this ancient city, remnants of both civilizations intertwine—a silent yet vivid testament to their coexistence.

During my stay in a rented home in Antalya, the idea of exploring Perge sparked my imagination. The city's proximity to Antalya made it a convenient choice, and the journey was effortlessly accessible. A short tram ride from the city center to the airport, followed by a brief stroll, brought us to the doors of Perge, ready to unfold its story.

On that particular day, two of us set forth on this adventure, fueled by the promise of history and discovery. Sadly, our third companion changed plans, and another could only spare an hour. Navigating Perge in such a short span was indeed a challenge, for this ancient city is a place deserving of a day's exploration. Despite the constraints, we made the most of our time, diving into the narratives of Apostle Paul and soaking in the town's aura—a living connection to the biblical tales. Perge remains etched in our memories as a testament to the marriage of antiquity and modern convenience, an expedition that left us enriched and inspired.

Perge in the Bible

  1. Acts 13:13: "From Paphos, Paul and his companions sailed to Perga in Pamphylia, where John left them to return to Jerusalem."

  2. Acts 14:25: "And when they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia."

These verses in the Book of Acts recount Paul's travels and experiences in Perge, providing historical and biblical context to his presence in this ancient city.
