Last weekend, my husband and I decided it was time for a much-needed break. My husband had been working tirelessly for months, and we both longed for some relaxation. Even though our home is not far from the beautiful beaches of Phuket, we wanted to escape the routine and enjoy a change of scenery, if only for a night. So, we booked a cozy hotel near Khao Khad, Panwa Cape.

The weekend getaway felt like a breath of fresh air from the moment we made the booking. The idea of waking up to the sound of the ocean and spending some quiet moments together was exactly what we needed. On the day of our stay, we left home early, eager to make the most of our mini vacation. Since check-in wasn’t until the afternoon, we decided to stop for lunch at a restaurant we had heard good things about: "Chill Rim Lay."

As soon as we arrived, we knew we had made the right choice. The restaurant was nestled right on the beach, offering a perfect view of the sparkling water. The atmosphere was serene, with a gentle breeze blowing in from the sea. Towering, shady trees surrounded the restaurant, casting cool shadows over the tables, making it feel like a hidden oasis. We found a seat under one of the large trees, where we could enjoy both the view and the peaceful ambiance.

We spent the next couple of hours soaking in the beautiful surroundings, savoring the delicious food, and talking about everything and nothing. The combination of the beach, the gentle rustling of leaves in the breeze, and the feeling of being far away from all the stresses of daily life made it the perfect start to our weekend. Even though we were still so close to home, it felt like we were in another world entirely.

After parking the car, we made our way into the restaurant, which seemed hidden among the towering trees that stretched along the coastline. The path led us through a natural archway of greenery, and with each step, we could feel the coolness of the shade. It was as if we had stepped into a tranquil retreat, far from the hustle of everyday life.

The restaurant was completely open-air, with numerous tables arranged beneath the expansive canopy of the trees. The atmosphere was refreshingly cool, with the natural shade protecting us from the heat. The sound of the waves lapping softly against the shore mixed with the rustling leaves above, creating a peaceful ambiance that instantly put us at ease.

For those who preferred a bit more shelter or if the rain decided to make an appearance, there was also the option to sit inside the restaurant’s pavilion. The large structure was built to complement the natural surroundings, open on all sides to let the wind pass through. There was no need for air conditioning here; a fan gently spun overhead, and the breeze from the sea seemed to find its way in no matter where you sat. It felt like the perfect blend of nature and comfort, a place designed to relax and let the stresses of the outside world melt away.

The overcast sky gave way to a soft light, and the sea before us stretched out vast and calm, its surface reflecting the gentle post-rain shimmer.

Thanks to the rain, the air felt crisp, and there was a soothing coolness all around. We were grateful for the timing—what could have been a hot, humid midday was now a perfect moment to sit and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. The view of the sea seemed endless, and with the rain gone, everything felt clean and renewed, as if nature had pressed reset just for us.

As I walked around, the atmosphere was serene. It was nearing noon, and the tide had receded, revealing a wide stretch of wet sand. A wooden bridge extended from the restaurant out toward the sea, leading to several boats anchored in the distance. I strolled along the bridge, capturing the scenery with each step—the boats bobbing gently in the shallow water, the distant horizon where the sky met the sea.

The low tide was a quiet yet busy time for the local fishermen. I watched as a few of them prepared their boats to set out, taking advantage of this opportune moment to catch fresh seafood. The tide’s retreat revealed their pathway to the deeper waters, where they would gather their daily catch to sell at the local markets. It was a humbling reminder of the rhythm of coastal life, where the ebb and flow of the sea dictated the livelihood of so many. I felt a sense of connection to the place, understanding why this restaurant had earned such praise, not only for its food but for the glimpse it offered into the authentic life of the local community.

Not long after I sat down, the staff arrived with the first dish—crispy pork fried in fish sauce. As soon as the plate was placed in front of us, the savory aroma filled the air, making my mouth water. The pork was golden brown, and it looked perfectly crispy. I picked up a piece, eager to try it, and the moment I bit into it, I was met with a delightful crunch. The sound was unmistakable—proof of just how crispy the pork was. The rich flavor of the fish sauce combined with the crispiness made it absolutely delicious. Each bite was satisfying, with the pork maintaining its crunch while being tender on the inside.

It was the perfect start to our meal, and I couldn't help but share a knowing smile with my husband—we both knew we were in for a fantastic lunch.

The vibrant colors of the salad and the sizzling crunch of the fried vegetables made it look irresistible.

I eagerly dug in, enjoying the contrasting textures—the crispiness of the vegetables paired with the flavorful, slightly spicy sauce. It was so delicious that before I knew it, I had finished the entire plate by myself. The portion was generous, but I couldn’t stop myself from savoring every bite.

As I sat back, feeling satisfied and full, I glanced at the remaining dishes on the table. Despite how much I had eaten, our meal was far from over. I could already feel the familiar fullness settling in, but I knew I had to pace myself—there was still more delicious food waiting to be enjoyed.

Although I was already feeling quite full, the taste of the steamed crab with curry was so irresistible that I found myself reaching for more. Each bite seemed even more flavorful than the last, and it was impossible to stop until I had eaten my fill.

It was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal, made even more special by the serene atmosphere of the restaurant. The combination of great food and a beautiful seaside setting left a lasting impression on me, making it one of the most memorable dining experiences I’ve had.

The gentle breeze coming off the sea, the rustling of the trees, and the sound of waves lapping at the shore all created a calming effect. I walked along the wooden bridge once more, this time paying closer attention to the details—the boats swaying slightly with the low tide, the quiet murmur of the few diners left, and the way the sunlight gently filtered through the leaves of the trees. It was a peaceful moment, one I wished I could freeze in time.

As I stood there, looking out at the vast ocean, I felt a sense of contentment. The combination of delicious food, a tranquil atmosphere, and the chance to pause and appreciate the surroundings had made this day truly special.
