Matchbox Twenty took some time before releasing their second album. In fact, Rod Thomas, the band's front man was featured in the song "Smooth" by Santana, which was a very successful single. Then finally, their second album "Mad Season". It was their era when their band name was changed from the numeric "20" to the word "Twenty".
The band scored a Billboard Hot 100 number 1 hit with the album's lead single "Bent". I still actually feel weird on the album's music video, which was a hit in MTV Asia back then, 23 years ago.

Matchbox Twenty has gone quite mellow with the ballad rock "If You're Gone". It has a sentimental black and white music video too. The song was a number 5 hit on Billboard Hot 100, while it peaked at number 4 in US Mainstream chart. It was a moderate hit in UK at number 50, since they don't have a huge fan base in the country.
"Mad Season" single was the third release from the album. It was only a minor hit though peaking at number 48 in Billboard Hot 100, and higher at 20 in US Mainstream chart. It was a number 76 hit in UK Singles Chart. "Last Beautiful Girl" was the final single but it failed to chart in Billboard Hot 100, entering at number 13 of US Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles. It charted at number 96 of UK Singles Chart.
"Mad Season" album reached number 3 in the US and 31 in UK. It was still successful going 4x platinum in the United States, but far from the 12x platinum from their debut. It is also Gold Record in UK, which was the same from its predecessor.
