With regard to self- protection, it is quite essential that every woman and girl feels self-confident about her capacity to self-defend. Appropriately, women should feel confident while coming back home late, meeting strangers and in all such scenarios which they feel uncomfortable. Be Alert of Everything around You
The first rule is always around someone is to protect oneself. Thus, there is always the danger to be blindsided, and being oblivious to what happens around oneself. Refrain from any sort of relaxation, be it texting or headphone plugging in isolated areas. If something seems to be suspicious or wrong, it probably is.
Shout
There is no reason to keep sounding quiet in such circumstances. Simply shouting STOP!’ or HELP’ can either be sufficient to draw help from passersby or scare an attacker. Making some noise gets people’s attention and hesitation in their assailant.
Keep your Invader Away
If at all someone does approach you and makes you uncomfortable, make sure you speak loudly to set the distance first. Yell or shout before engaging and allow them to figure out the distance themselves.
Strike Accordingly but Simply
Certain moves should be practiced as these could come in handy when self-defense is needed:
Palm Strike:
Use the palm of the hand to strike an assailant at the nose or the chin as best as you can.
Elbow Jab:
When someone pulls you violently or stands too close, jab your elbow against the lower part of his torso or the face.
Knee Strike:
Knee the attacker in the groin area if he is physically too close to you.
Use Everyday Weapons for Self Defense
This is very important. Watch how simple things that we use every day can be styled as self-defense weapons. If you hold your keys in between your knuckles or grip them clumped together, they can be pretty effective. If worse comes to worst, grab a pen and use it as a stabbing device. Turn the other person’s weight against them if they grab you by your throat. Spinning a hefty handbag in circles is also a learnt skill.
Master the Movement of Grabbing
More often than not, escaping from an aggressor might be assisted by abandoning some brute force. For instance:
Wrist Grabs:
Hold the attacker's thumb in the direction of the hand that is being grabbed and twist it back, then withdraw your arm.
Bear Hug (from behind):
It is ideal to bring the knees together in this case to lower the center of gravity and target the attacker's foot, or the elbow can be used in the opposite direction to strike the aggressor.
