Did you know that Bat excrement (aka guano) was considered a precious commodity during the American Civil War?
Why?
Because bat guano contains saltpeter.
Saltpeter, also known as Potassium Nitrate (KNO3), is a powerful oxidizer.
Mixed with charcoal and sulfur, it makes gunpowder and other explosives go boom!
