Ease of use will be the big winner in the end. #500wordsaday

I’m running on a bit of a theme this week for my daily posts. Sometimes the mood hits me to write in a certain direction but for anybody that has been following along it’s all been about long term aims and having the long term vision to keep building a project even while things might not be taking off in the way that you want.

Nothing big has ever been built over night and the longer that you can keep building and surviving the stronger that your base will be for when the project picks up momentum. Even now we are adding new and unique members to the eco-system that will build even more uses and projects for the blockchain and keep expanding that base into new and uncharted territory. We are still so far off blockchain reaching mass adoption that it should even be on the radar for now.

Right now the focus should be on making everything simpler to use and bridging that gap for when more attention inevitably turns in our direction and be ready to accept all comers with open arms.

Time builds brand recognition as well so putting in the hard yards now will stand to a project in later years as it will have already crossed people’s radar in one form or another.

I was at work yesterday morning packing out a section alongside a smart 23 year old girl. She had heard my colleague asking a question about my crypto debit card and wanted to know a bit more about how it all worked. This put me into my element. I have a solid idea of the basics and not a clue on the technical details so it should have been a breeze to explain how to get involved and begin earning some crypto.

I told her about blogging on peakd.com first of all which was fine.
Then told her about the attention economy and proof of stake.

How I earn hive on a daily basis through writing and playing Splinterlands. The cards being a monetary asset and having internal markets to make a profit. She was still playing along for me which as great. She loved Pokémon cards when she was younger and liked the idea of the game. I have to show her properly one of the days.

Then we got onto using hive to buy real things. I told her about how some websites would take it for items. She didn’t really get the whole token value part but it wasn’t a deal breaker. I have a crypto.com debit card and showed her how I transfer crypto onto it and spend it as dollars and she got really lost at this point. Once you get into exchanges and the different swaps involved to actually use your crypto in real life it gets out of control.

Now some day she will end up on hopefully the hive eco-system either writing or gaming but at the moment the posts on here wouldn’t really capture her attention like tic-toc does for hours every day. There are too many steps to translate hive into concrete products in real life which will be another barrier to break down.

We have seen massive inroads over the past few years towards usability of tokens but there is still a long road to travel and it won’t be until we can show the likes of her the ease and benefit of using a hive based app that I expect the price to rise and stabilise to a respectable level. Until then I will be looking long term by stacking as much as possible and by helping to progress our development to reach that point. If we keep building then we will get there but the key for now is survival and development.
