To manage its extensive internal audio library, TikTok announced on August 17 that it will partner with music streaming platform Audius.
Audius uses a so-called "user-centric" model. In this model, individual users who stream music pay the artists directly via a blockchain system.
For years, blockchain has been making sensational claims and promising to change the future of the music industry, but it hasn't delivered.
Finally, TikTok is now taking concrete steps to reveal what that future might look like for everyday artists.
