They are the norm, and part of that norm is to scrub history so as to make them disappear. We are left with palimpsests.
It's not that "They" (the psychopaths in control) are the "norm" in Human society, but that in societies that account for Their energy input (use money), the psychopaths will be promoted to the top. And We have had moneyed societies a very long time. There have been societies that lived in abundance, where all They needed was there for the taking, and in these few places - like Tahiti was before the "western world" swooped in and changed it up - money, the accounting for the energy Each was adding, never arose.
And in these places, the caring Ones took care of things, the People did what They loved to do, and there was no poverty.
But yes, it is the "norm" insofar as moneyed societies are concerned. And as We are now post scarcity (no political baggage attached), with plenty for All but that All cannot afford it. Nearly half the food produced spoils before sale and goes to waste - enough to feed All of Us - leaving Many hungry. If that food could flow freely to Those who need and who want it, the waste would be vastly less.
