BATMAN THE MOVIE - OCEAN - SPECTRUM REVIEW

Batman The Movie is a platform game for the Spectrum, among other systems, published by Ocean in 1989.

Gotham City is plagued by unsavory criminals, but it relies on the dark, winged superhero Batman to deliver justice. In an assault on the Axis chemical factory, Batman appears to take out mobster Jack Napier, throwing him into a vat of acid.

But Napier survives the accident, disfigured and mentally unbalanced, and emerges with a new identity: the Joker. He becomes the master of crime and plans to deal the final blow to the city, releasing toxic gas at a massive tribute party. Only Batman can stop him once and for all.

Batman The Movie employs different genres in each level, a practice that Ocean has had great success with with his movie-based games.

Donning the Batman suit, we begin our journey through the labyrinthine Axis factory, which we will have to navigate to reach Jack Napier. Thanks to different gadgets such as the Batrope and the Batarang, we will be able to access places that were otherwise inaccessible and defeat our enemies.

At the controls of the Batmobile we will be pursued by the Joker's hitmen through the streets of Gotham, full of traffic and police checkpoints. Our vehicle has a practical hook that, if we manage to launch it against a lamppost, will allow us to change direction at high speed.

Once in our Batcave we will have to identify several products that are harmful to health, introduced into the market by the evil clown. The computer will allow us to discard the poisoned batches so that they are withdrawn from the market.

The next scenario puts us back on the city streets, this time piloting the Batplane, with the goal of removing a multitude of giant balloons filled with poisonous gas from the festival. With the ship's sharp wings we can cut their anchors and send them into the atmosphere, taking care not to make them explode.

After the Joker's plan fails, he will escape to the cathedral tower to flee in his helicopter. It is time to finish him off for good by intercepting him at the top of the ruined building, being careful not to end up buried or thrown off the cliff in the attempt.
