Okay Maybe I Cared a Little About The Election

Woke up this morning to that smug, arrogant twatball Scott Morrison booted out of leadership in Australia. I can't recall another PM being so loathable, even big eared budgie smuggler wearing Tony Abbott, and that's saying something.

In Australia you have to vote or risk a fine. People from other countries think this is appalling but when you are raised here it feels right. You can't moan about the state of politics and not vote. Arguably if everyone didn't vote you'd have a different outcome but that's never going to happen. And besides, we have 'donkey votes' here where you can just draw a big penis on the ballot paper and your vote is redundant, if you fancy a choice.

Anyway I digress - we now have a Labour government. Not only that, there's been changes to seats held traditionally by Liberal who have swung toward Labor (in Australia Labor is left opposed to Liberal right, although that's a basic way of looking at it). Even in Queensland there's been gains by the Greens which is unheard of (Greens stand more for the environment). And there's been lots of independent seats gained too from new 'teal' parties which were Liberals who didn't like the Liberal government due to poor policies on climate change etc. So whilst it's not clear if Labour has a MAJORITY government, things are looking up and Australian politics is changing.

Honestly, for those who don't live here, I can't tell you how much the Liberal government and Scott Morrison are loathed by people who care about woman, indigenous rights, and the environment. Most commentators say this election was the climate change election which is heartening, showing this is something everyone cares about. Whether it's true or not, floods and fires in this country have got people scared and focus on coal and mining might improve our budget etc but at the expense of a lot more.

One tweet said that we can turn out clocks 70 years forward now because we are moving out of the 1950s. More woman in politics, indigenous people in Parliament help right?

Now I'm under no illusion that politics will change at all - cronyism, corruption, lies and manipulation are characteristics of all governments, but there's been MASSIVE changes rather than a simple swap from Liberal to Labour. Of the 14 seats held traditionally by men, 12 have been won by woman. Doesn't make it better just for this fact I know. But!

For the first time in a long while, there's a little hope.

And I can stop swearing at the Pentecostal, misogynist, unempathetic twatball dickhead that was in charge of our country.

How do these new people stand on vaccination and the covid con? That's my primary concern these days. Will the new administration be signing the WHO treaty, mandating lethal medical injections, and restricting human relations and free breathing?

yeh good questions, what I would have asked.
Nice that the world won't have to see that smug twatish face telling you guys what to do anymore at least.

Exactly... We are all glad he's gone. Peter Dutton, likely new opposition leader, will be the new evil asshole to throw up over. Covid has barely been talked about in lead up to election. Who knows. I don't actually have faith in any government as stands but the fact we will know have a more socialist government is a positive change for me .. I kinda live in either hope or naivete that worst is over now and there is no nefarious plot to bring it in.

yeh I haven't voted since Bliar and haven't seen any difference in the downward spiral of modern society whether cons or socialists are in power. It's all just puppetry and theatre. The puppetmasters are running the show but the puppets get the rotten tomatoes.

Ugh that war criminal. The thing is you've got the establishment in charge, would take a lot to rock the status quo. Look like we've rocked it a little with what's happened with this election, lots of minority parties in and definitely not a landslide for Labour. Interestingly the new 'teal' parties are mainly run by woman and one of the things they're all for is anti corruption and accountability and values in politics, which is a kinda oxymoron. And we have an indigenous woman in there for the first time (ikr, how backwards are we!) - so there's kinda hope. There's lots of hope around over here. I don't know much about Irish politics but fuck me those cunts in power in the UK need an uprising to shake things up a bit. The disconnection of most people in politics kills the best of us .

the only decent person in Irish politics is Clare Daly. Look her up you'd love her. The rest of em are a bag o' shite. Same everywhere

Probably... But let's hope not. No one is talking much about COVID here, focus is on climate emergencies and environment. I don't think the mandates will return to extent of past but I'm likely very naive, granted. They say they aren't mandating but leave it up to businesses to decide and say if there's another pandemic it won't be off table , though they'll try to avoid it.

Sometimes sweeping changes are necessary, even if they don't produce a perfect result. I don't live in Oz, of course, but from here in the States it looks like at least a mildly positive development. What I find interesting is that it seems like some of your "minor parties" are gaining ground... one of the things sadly lacking in the US.

Yes, the minor parties did well.. the Greens have held Melbourne for ages but now have four seats I think. And the 'teal' minorities that broke away from Liberal as well, such interesting and positive changes.

I look forward to the day nobody has to vote for any maggot in poli-tiks, but not holding my breath.

Yeah exactly, but until then, this is what we have. And there is change - very interestingly, moving away from the two parties into minorities because we couldn't bring ourselves to vote for either fucker. I have this illusion/hope that at least a minority government means Labour will be held accountable by the independents/minority parties and they can't just push stuff through coz they can like Liberal did. HOpe is all we got really, I don't think I could live any other way - even though I know there's still going to be skullduggery. Interesting a lot of the 'teal' or minority/independent parties formed as they wanted government accountability/transparency/less cronyism/corruption etc and for them to address things like indigenous voices in parliament and climate change. And many of those parties fronted by woman, which is a big big change in Australian politics - so whatever happens, we have had some change which might make politicians wake up a little - getting rid of grey white males are a big fucking start. I'm not anti male but im just saying historically that's the establishment and we need things to rock the establishment. For the first fucking time we're getting an indigenous person in government which is both insane and awesome. So yeah most people I know here are excited about change, even though it's far, far, far from perfect. I know the arguments against compulsory voting but you can see it from both sides. Sure, ideally we wouldn't have it but there are actually much, much bigger things to worry about it's not as if that's been the slippery slope to totalatarianism since 1924 when it first started - other nation states are pretty totalatarian without compulsory voting. Anyway it's MOnday morning, what am I doing, I have nice things to do rather than worry about politics - like growing mushrooms, yay.

I hope what you think and want is achieved, the problem with poli-tiks is they get corrupted by the very system they want to change as central banks con-troll policy, not ticians named a poli.

Yeah, I might be hopeful but am under no expectations that miracles will be worked. But, a change is a good as a holiday, or maybe just a long wkd.
