With the upcoming festival of Ganesh Chaturthi this coming mid week a lot of preparations have to be done. I do not want to keep things for last minute so since last 2 to 3 days I have started working on it. Here in Oman I do face some challenges organizing this because most of the things which I could get readymade back home in India, here I need to make it myself. Like, for the decorations in India, I can get it readymade but here in Muscat I am not able to source it. I can get some little things but not the full thing. Also if I hire some event planner to do it, then that would be very expensive and I would end up paying 5 to 6 times more then what I could do by myself. The other thing is I also enjoy doing it all by myself, I feel like some sort of satisfaction doing it all on my own rather then buying things readymade and keeping it. So it's a mixture of all. Doing things by yourself for your special occasions always makes us feel good and high on energy.
The important thing first that I have to make is the backdrop where I will be keeping my Ganesha Idol. Though I did not know what exactly the design I would like to make, but I had got some things from India, like some strings of leaves and flowers. So I made use of that and firstly covered up the window space. In the last few years I have always had my Ganesha Idol in this place as it's East direction and this year also I would do the same. I have never done the window in the past, but this time I thought of doing it up. It's not very glamorous, but it's come out very well with all the available resources I had. Because of the glare the picture is not very clear, probably at night it will be a better one.
The other task I completed was the backdrop for the Idol. I am not a very creative person also, and was poor in art work also during my school times, so I have to real scratch my head when I have to get to these kind of things. But, yes I still would like to do it by myself, no matter how simple it turns out to be.
So far this is what I have made, but it's not yet complete. The center part which is empty, I plan to put up a round light frame, which you can see in the picture below. It will be a good show when the lights will be on. After clicking the picture I also realized that there are still some empty spaces which I need to fil up.
As I am starting my work. It was a white color board and then I stuck up this blue glitter sheet on it to make it look attractive. Blue is my favorite color, so I most of the time end up with shades of blue in almost everything.
I will be installing Lord Ganesha at my home for 2 days and a lot of prayer work and guest coming will be happening.
Still a lot of work has to be done. Today evening I plan to go to the market and finish off all the shopping part, so that the next 2 days I only focus on preparations at home. Wednesday is a big day for me and I need to be well prepared for that.
