What is Burning Man? (2019 documentary)

in art •  2 years ago

▶️ Burning Man is more than just a week-long festival of culture held in Nevada each August. It is a unique, timeless, profound human experience that defies most attempts at definition. Immerse yourself in a trip to Black Rock City, through the sights and sounds my dusty little camera brought back from the playa in 2008, '09, '10, and '11. This 52 minute documentary is my best attempt to answer the question, "What is Burning Man?"

This answered a lot of my questions about the event - well done!

Thanks for the feedback! It took me many dozens of hours of editing (and only a few of those were spent daydreaming about those happier and freer times).

I had no idea what it was until I saw this video. You've made it seem rejuvenating, invigorating, what more humans would produce if only they knew they could.

Yes! MediKatie and I really miss it. 2011 was our last, but we didn't know that at the time. It's happening right now, they're half way through the week. Most people leave Sunday or Monday.
Some people are turned off by the burning of a giant figure of a man... but I found no reason to be offended by it. Everybody is free to get what they want out of the experience. If watching "the man" burn is your thing, I don't have any problem with that. Even if you consider it part of your beliefs, or religion. For me it was exciting, and cleansing, and yes... invigorating. Black Rock City changed me for the better, in those 4 weeks spread over 4 summers. I thought I was done "growing up" until I experienced that. And sure, there are people who do it mostly for the party. That's not my thing, but I just stayed out of their way, and it worked well. I almost miss being woken up in my tent at 4am by a neon flashing flying walrus artcar driving past, with 30 people laughing and yelling on the rooftop dancefloor. The entire thing was an experience, even the road trip down there, as you saw!
