Therapeutic Benefits of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy

Our sense of smell is one of the strongest five senses that reaches the brain. The moment there is a smell whether good or bad instantly it kicks the brain and gives a response of feeling good or not feeling good. Every smell triggers a certain emotion within the brain. If it's a nice fragrance there is a feel good factor and a feeling of happiness. If it's a bad odor it leaves us with an ill feeling and if it continues for a longer time it can get to an extent of making us feel sick. Similarly if the good fragrance continues for a long time it can work wonders on our mind and mood.

When we step into a SPA saloon or even a temple there is a very sweet fragrance and we do not feel like stepping out of that place. A good fragrance not only uplifts the mood but it also uplifts the overall energy of that place. Essential oils are famous when it comes to spreading a good fragrance and scientifically it is proved that they are therapeutic. At the same time one should also understand how to use the Essential oils and which one to use for which purpose.

The traditional methods of using essential oil has been using it in candles to spread the fragrance. But over heating essential oils can damage it's therapeutic properties. The best way to use them is just applying a drop or two directly on the skin. The other way to use it is in a cool mist or a dry aroma diffuser. They are easily available in the market and they work the best for spreading fragrance in the space.

Using an Aromatherapy can actually benefit our well being and vitality. Like the Oregano oil works best on Cough and Cold. Just 2 drops in lukewarm water or herbal tea will do wonders for the throat. I personally use it whenever I have a throat infection along with the Zinc Lozenges and trust me I have no need to take a single antibiotic. In last many years I have not consumed any allopathic medicine and all my treatments are natural with herbs and other home treatments. I find myself in a much better place health wise in this manner.

It is equally important to buy the right thing, because these days in the market we get many fake substitutes which are nothing by synthetic fragrance oils and they may not have any benefits. A good essential oil if it has to be bought has to be cold pressed one, because heat is not applied in preparation of cold pressed oils and hence for that reason their therapeutic properties are intact.

Some common uses of Essential oils are

  • Lavender - Releases stress and promotes good sleep
  • Frankincense and Sandalwood- Calms the Nerves
  • Rose - Reduces anxiety
  • Oregano - Good for cough and cold
  • Peppermint - good for digestion

When we start looking at our health in a holistic manner, that's where we truly understand the significance of good health and it's long term benefits.
