When on an archeology dig, many curious objects are found. If the archeologist doesn't understand what they found, mistakes can be made!
The Romans used an object called a dodecahedron:
Image from YouTube, I got as a text. They assigned a religious or star tracking use; since it was always found near mountains. Compared to Stonehenge, and set it aside for cataloging.
This is the rest of the story:
Although this did come by text, I found the YouTube video it came from. Not exactly a stellar observatory, and it was by the mountains because That is where they needed gloves!
Here is where it came from:

She makes a finger for a glove on here, in a very short time (on a 3-d printed copy) on this dodecahedron.
Occam's Razor applies to archeology too:

The simplest explanation remaining, when the strange is removed, is usually the right answer!
A lot of ancient life revolved around astronomy, crops, seasons. Entire belief systems like paganism evolved around such things. Science at one time was little more than astronomy and philosophy. Many ancient tools and monoliths are indeed for calculating the timing of seasons, moons, tides, crops, etc. Their lives depended on understanding such things. The only alternative was mysticism and superstition, which were also quite prevalent, but ultimately didn't really work.
It's no wonder we assume new findings might be related to such things! Statistically, that's a good bet. But of course, not ALL ancient objects are for this purpose, as you have pointed out : D
True, the seasons etc were important to the people back then! When to plant was a big piece of their lives. It is a good bet, to go that way; it's just fun to see them step in it so badly!
My Son studied Archeology but couldn't make a living wage doing it. He still goes to a dig on vacation sometimes.
Be blessed!

That's cool, I wanted to be an archeologist/paleontologist when I was a kid! By the time college came around that had changed of course, but I still have a layman's interest in such things.
He worked at a museum locally for several years, but he was broke all the time. He loved it, but couldn't afford to stay! He processed things that were donated for display, so he handled things no one knew were even there!
He still has 3 jobs, but he's using the income well, by prepping.
Trying to out think the professional thieves in DC is taking time, but we're gaining on it!
👍🤠💗🌿🐟
Sounds awesome. You have done a great job with your family! What a strength good connections can be... and blood bonds are special...
Keep up the great work : ))
Thanks, trying to outthink the thieves. I just hope I get enough done before they crash things!
Come here, and ask for political asylum...might work.
👍🤠💙🙏💸
Genius Grandma! LOL
Personally I thought it was an incense holder. You know, for the stick style incense.
The last thing I would ever think it is would be something stellar related but I'm no expert. We all know about experts!
Cool post dude!!!! Really cool.
I liked it myself. Some educated fools need to learn to laugh at themselves; to clear the air! This is just trying to hard....
But Grandma whipped them good!
👍🤠💗😋💙🙏
Haha go grandma.
Don't you know the eggheads were embarrassed! I bet they spent months trying to figure out how to predict where the stars moved from this knitting aid.
Then along came grandma....
