The first day of Megacon marked a massive increase in my average step count but that wasn't exactly unexpected. It's approximately 3000 steps from my hotel room to the convention center so I get 6000 steps if all I do is walk there and back.
It's a trip from the hotel across a sky bridge to one convention center building, down half the length or more of that building then across another sky bridge that winds its way around another hotel and eventually to the other convention center building. Then it's all the way to the other side of that building to get to the panel rooms where I spend most of my time. But of course, to thoroughly explore the vendor hall, you have to make numerous trips up and down the aisles.
15000 steps is more than I get from a trip to Disney World.
The pic above is the view from the hotel I am staying at.
