This beautiful sea-land crab is called Ocypode Ryderi. He lives mainly on the sandy beaches of the Indian Ocean. This particular individual lives on the island of Zanzibar. There are two individuals in the photos. One of them lives literally next to our hotel deckchair.
All photos show males. They have one overgrown jaw, which they use to fight for the female.
This species is omnivorous, very resistant to dehydration.
I decided to make him a small film session. For this purpose, I set up a camera in front of its cavity, and the zoom was controlled by a telephone.
He became interested in the object that landed next to his house. He looked closely at the camera.
Great photos, that beach is beautiful! There are many crabs around where I live too, but how did you manage to take such good photos of them without them instantly running away? Regards.
