Pain relief is the grace of Allah. When the heart of man became insensible, became solid, then he became closer to punishment. Punishment is approaching on a heartless heart because it does not understand who is what and who is going to be wronged. 
Dua should be that Allah Ta'ala keeps the feeling safe. This is possible only through commitment.
There is an incident in a book, he has written that when someone's mother died, he asked for leave. The officer asked why are you taking leave? He said my mother is dead. When did she die? He says that she died yesterday or the day after yesterday and I am taking leave so that people do not say that mother died and did not take leave. 
You understand! This is senseless!
