"What? How?! Really!?!" That's what I thought when I stumbled upon this abandoned electric wheelchair on my walk to the groceries store before lunch today.
I come through here almost daily, people often use this area to dispose of their trash, filthy mattresses, old tires, broken bikes, so at first I thought somebody had thrown this wheelchair away.
But upon a second look, this thing seemed to be in pretty good condition. Why would somebody leave this behind, stuck on this little ledge? They probably didn't get stuck and crawled away?!?
I checked if it was still running. It was! The battery was at 60% charge and the thing was running fine, except for the fact that it had bottomed out on that ledge, which only needed a gentle push to get it free.
It slowly dawned on me... today's Saturday, yesterday was Friday night. Some rowdy kids must have stolen this thing and taken it for a joy ride. Kids these days. Really?!? Ugh. Despicable! Obviously somebody really needs it!
The chair had an inventory number and a maintenance sticker from the supplier. I called them, they should probably be able to correlate the owner through their inventory number... but of course, nobody's in the office on the weekend.
Alas, the police finally had one useful task for the day. I called them to pick it up before someone else found it and took it for the next joyride.
Thanks for your time!
P.S.: comes to my mind how "ableist" my daily hashtag is, commanding you to take more walks, some poor folks just can't. Gosh... I'm glad my legs work fine.
