There is so much exposure to children from a very young age in today's time that it is important that we give them some education around sex from a very young age. Many parents specially in India shy off talking to their Children about sex. When we have to educate them on Sex, we do not have to give them education on how to do sex, but it is more about educating them on what a Good touch and a Bad touch for a child can be like. Child sexual abuse crime rate is leading when it comes to number. Statistics show that 1 out of every 10 girls and 1 out of every 50 boys get sexually abused under the age of 18. For girls as far as I would know I think the number would be more.
If we see the patterns, also we observe one thing that the abuse takes place majority of the time in the family itself from some close relative. It is sad, that we have such monsters living in our society who would do so much dirty things to children. Many times, children do not even realize that they are being abused because they do not understand this lust and sex things. Some old desperate uncle will try to abuse a little young girl by making her sit on the lap and then caressing her, or pretend that he is playing with her and try to touch her everywhere. The little girl would least know what's happening with her. Then there are some very weird parents who would know their child is getting abused and not take any action with the fear of getting embarrassed in public and family.
As responsible parents and family members it is important that we give enough education to our children for them to understand what the opposite person is trying to do with them.
Parents need to make their children understand as to who can touch them and on which body parts and who cannot touch them at all on any body parts, even if they are close relatives. They need to make them understand which the private body parts that they should never be showing off to anyone if asked for or lured into.
Parents and elders should also be mindful of their own behavior in front of children. If they act loosely in front of them then high chances of children also doing the same thing. Also, they should warn their children to not go to any strangers or take anything from them. This cannot be just sexual abuse but any other form of crime also.
The another one most important thing is also about not making it sound like Sex is a bad thing and scare the children. It should not happen that they get so scared that they may be afraid to speak up. They should be comfortable reaching out to their parents and talking about any discomfort they feel. It should not be a situation where a child becomes overcautious and starts suspecting every single person's touch. This can be harmful for them at an emotional level.
Children need guidance and support and that the parents should do it very sensitively. There are many podophiles around and they are waiting to get an opportunity. Children are vulnerable. Hence it is important that right type of knowledge is given to them from a very young age.
